“Hotel Far Exceeded Expectations”

I visited the Holiday Inn Dubuque/Galena in order to visit with a college buddy who was in Dubuque on a short business trip. He stayed in what supposedly was a luxury hotel--one that I'd removed from my list of possibilities because of its priciness. He admitted enviously that my motel was better than his hotel in almost every way. I was completely satisfied with every aspect of the motel, ranging from the staff's willingness to accommodate me when my wife couldn't accompany me at the last minute, to the convenience of parking (my car was parked only a few yards from the elevator to my room), to the excellent complimentary breakfast. I'm sure fancier hotels in the area offer more amenities and a more scenic view, but for the price I paid, I'm extremely satisfied with the Holiday Inn Dubuque/Galena.

Area recommendations

The Main Street area where I stayed is full of a nice variety of restaurants and a number of interesting places to visit, such as the National Mississippi River and Aquarium.

“Dubuque Holiday Inn”

Needed a hotel close to a conference site. The hotel was as expected. The front desk staff were kind and courteous. I misplaced a jacket between the conference site and the hotel. I asked at the front desk upon check out, staff checked the lost and found and took my name. I never found the jacket, but received a call from the front desk staying they hadn't found it. I didn't expect this and was glad for the notification. Close parking at the hotel was safe and meant we didn't have to drive the entire weekend.

“A special New Year's Eve stay”

New Year's Eve weekend, the hotel was brimming with activity. An exquisite wedding was taking place in both the hotel ballrooms. The hotel looked and felt festive and very haute. Staff accomodated our late arrival very well, and we got a great room with a great view. The rest of the weekend, the hotel was much less busy, the staff was extremely friendly and it was a little quicker to get service in the resturaunt and bar. Great location, walking distance to many wonderful attractions and evening locations. On-demand, free shuttle service to anywhere in the area, even surrounding towns. Only downside is the parking ramp - it's 3 levels, but they're not connected internally. So, if the ramp level you're trying to park in is full, you have to exit to the street and come back in on a different level. That was only a problem when the hotel is extremely full - like during that huge NYE wedding reception, otherwise no problem parking.
