“was better last year”

I have stayed at this property for the last few Thanksgivings. It was better last year. Staff paid less attention to detail this year and for the first time the pool area smelled of chlorine. A buffet was set up outside the banquet room a party rented and this made getting down that hallway rather difficult. Breakfast was cut VERY short on Thanksgiving morning so they could set up their brunch buffet. As I had really liked this property in the past I was quite disappointed.

Area recommendations

Most all of Dubuque is lovely.

“Nice newly remodeled rooms - Comfortable stay!”

I stayed at this hotel for a period of 3 nights on business. The king size bed was extremely comfortable and the newly remodeled room was very nice. I was pleasantly surprised to find the room came with a microwave and small refrigerator. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet was outstanding and included pancakes/french toast, sausage, bacon, scrambled eggs, potatos, cereals, donuts, milk, coffee, juices, toast, and more! Very nice. The only downside was the condition of the hallways - they are in need of a bit of updating. It appears they are working on updating the common areas a little at a time. Overall would recommend staying here.

“All the little things”

Every thing was very good here. The rooms were clean and nice. I like soft beds and my mother likes firm. Both of us agreed that the beds were very comfortable. I'm taller, so I was pleased to find the shower head well over 6 feet high. Every hotel staff member I encountered greeted me with eye contact, a genuine smile and a pleasant greeting. The pool area was all nice with lots of area for just relaxing poolside. While it did not bother my party at all, if you want to go to bed and have it quiet before 11 pm, do not get a poolside room. That is the closest I could come to finding a downside to this hotel, other than I only stayed one night!

Area recommendations

The downtown area is neat. The cable car that takes you up the bluff is kind of fun and the scenery in the fall is beautiful by the river.

“Beautiful hotel!”

This hotel is a wonderful place to stay. Very nice pool and hot tub. Bar and restaurant were very nice. The staff was absolutely wonderful and very accommodating. Shuttle service was available to local casinos. Would definately stay there again!

“I'd stay here again.”

It was all that I expected and they did upgrade our room without cost to a King bed with a sleeper sofa (which we needed when our teenage son came on the trip at the last minute).

“Easy to Find”

Remodeled best western. Champs is attached to the hotel and serves the breakfast buffet which is complimentary. Great hotel staff - very accommodating. Would stay there again.

“Many, many kids!”

This hotel is OK if you travel with your family and want your kids to spend the day in the swimming pool. We did not match this profile (young couple travelling with no kids) and were actually looking to stay downtown in a hotel with a swimming pool, for adults. Too bad! The hotel rooms are quite old and need some refurbishing. But the hotel staff is very friendly, welcoming and helpful and there is a convenient restaurant downstairs. We did not have a bad stay there - it was just not what we had in mind. Next time we'll do better research :-)
