After nearly two weeks touring Tuscany including the Palio de Siena we were ready for a few quiet nights in the country side of the Chianti region. This hotel was a great escape from the busy streets of Siena, and the staff helped make the stay even more memorable. Casa al Vento has a lot to offer for a small owner operated vineyard. There is a restaurant on site with a good breakfast, and there is a nice dinner menu offering regional selections for four courses. The staff is international, extremely helpful and went out of their way to accommodate our wishes during our stay. We took the cooking class with Chef Antonio, and front desk manager spent three hours with us to provide translation services so we could have the full benefit of the instructional class. The Chianti Classico wines produced by Casa al Vento were a great compliment to the meals we enjoyed during our stay. The FOHO reserve is recommended.
Our room was a rustic two room apartment suite that was appointed in period correct furniture. There are several small courtyards and gardens around the property to escape to, and the pool offered a beautiful view over the valley and rolling hills planted with Sangiovese grapes and olive trees. There is a small gift shop on site that offers wine, olive oil, food, and beauty products. There is also an onsite spa, but we did not use their services.
This is a nice place to stay in the Gaiole in Chianti region.

Great stay at Spaltenna in July 2014! The staff was amazing and extremely accommodating - never had better. Beautiful grounds and amazing food. Got engaged in one of the gardens so I have no complaints!!! Great wine too.

An amazing place! We found peace and quiet, it was the perfect place to regroup after the hustle and bustle of Rome and Venice. We stayed in one of the 2 bedroom apartments, and it was the perfect size for our family of four. Our two boys loved the idea of staying at a castle with a pool and my husband and I loved the gourmet meals and terrific wine! The scenery/background was breathtaking.

Having never been to the Chianti region before, I didn't realize that Griole in Chianti was a bit removed from the vineyards. The La Fonda was in the town square, which sounds lovely, and maybe sometimes is, but when we were there (May), it was dead. Plus it was exhausting to lug our luggage from a parking lot outside the square and up the steps to the front door. Luckily our room was on the first floor. Breakfast was average.

We had thought we were a bit lost and began to ask directions from a gentleman who approached our car as we were turning around. Before I could get two words out, Max (the most amazing front best/property manager I've ever encountered) addressed me by name and welcomed me to our home for the next 5 days. We were made to feel right at home and a part of the family (even though this is billed as a simple hotel…it is far more)
The property is part of a very prestigious winery and tours are available upon request. Max was beyond helpful throughout the week including introducing us to a small restaurant just at the end of their driveway. Run by Emauelle, the food was greed and the wine (as expected) superb. It became our last stop each night as we enjoyed the company as much as the cuisine.
Additionally, this place is very quiet and perfectly centrally located to more than you could ask for during the week. We particularly enjoyed Radda in Chianti (about 20 min), Siena (about 40 min) and Cortona (about an hour) but there are many, many more small little villages to explore.
Also, some of the best wine shopping around was just by pulling off the road to one of the many direct sales vineyards within less than 15 min drive from the hotel. (and Max will arrange shipping, for theirs or any other wines you may purchase.) As you can tell, we can't speak highly enough of our experience...due in large part to the help received from our new friend Max.
