Extended our holiday by staying for 3 nights here. The location and setting were excellent. Take time to explore the orchard, it was wonderful. The breakfasts catered for every possible taste and the only meal we ate in was excellent.
Just a reasonable downhill walk into Funchal centre, this comfortable old house style hotel has spotless swimming pool with sun beds to laze in on the days not spent out & about.getting around is easy, bus stops all a hop away, parking in the grounds, really delightful views,& if traffic noise gets you down ask for quiet bedrooms at the rear.
"Small, no frills hotel in Funchal hotel district"
Stayed in hotel for an extended period of 11 days in late October.
Holiday plans were to spend sometime relaxing and enjoy the sun and the rest walking the levadas.
Hotel was a great base to do that.
Pool area is small, overlooking the main road below and beyond out to sea. Was not busy whilst we were there - we were able to enjoy the sun in peace and were not aware of road noise from below.
Lido area on sea front an easy 5 minute walk downhill. Very close to supermarket and good choice of restaurants.
Staff we always polite and front desk very happy to help us plan our trips - mostly using local buses - out and about in the island.
Room was clean and everything in good working order.
ARRIVED TO FIND WE HAD BEEN UPGRADED TO THE PENTHOUSE SUITE. WHAT A DELIGHT, AS WE WERE THERE TO CELEBRATE MY HUSBAND'S BIRTHDAY. WONDERFUL SUITE WE FELT THOROUGHLY SPOILT. STAFF WERE LOVELY AND VERY ATTENTIVE. HOTEL ITSELF IS LOVELY IN A GREAT POSITION. PLENTY OF SUN BEDS AND TOWELS, POOLS GORGEOUS. HOTEL SEEMS TO CATER TO AN OLDER AGE GROUP!
We have just returned from a weeks stay at The Vine Hotel Funchal, what a fantastic stay. We were celebrating our honeymoon and my birthday also fell during our stay. We were greeted by very friendly staff who showed us to the roof top pool and 360bar which by the way are fabulous. We had a complimentary drink before being shown to our room. I read a lot about the lights and difficulty people had using them, if you just take a minute to look at the layout there are no problems. We were given a bottle of champagne as a honeymoon gift which was such a lovely touch. I cannot speak highly enough of the staff at The Vine they are wonderful. The view from the roof top bar is amazing and just allows you to see how central you are in Funchal, perfect location. We thought Madeira had a reputation for the older generation, and it does still attract an older age range, but I'm pleased to say that with Hotels like The Vine the trend is definitely moving towards those in their late 20s early 30s, cocktails and infinity pools!
Funchal has a lot to offer from whale, dolphin watching, to amazing botanical gardens and local traditions. By far the best restaurant that we had the pleasure to eat at was Restaurante Do Forte at Rua Portao São Tiago, for 29 euros each we had a 6 course meal, amazing staff and a beautiful view, but you have to book early as it seems everyone loves this place.
We have stayed at this hotel each year, and sometimes twice a year, for some time.
Wonderful place and great staff. This year we noticed that the reduction in staff numbers does compromise the quality of the visit but it will not stop us returning next year.
This is a lovely resort. Traditional and sophisticated, they focus on the individual. Some families, but mostly refined adults. Some singles, but as usual mostly couples. Many of the guests I met have been coming to the Cliff Bay for years. There are very few Americans! They offer activities if you choose to engage. Cocktail hours with the manager, flower arranging classes, etc. Amenities include a heated indoor/outdoor pool, another salt water pool at sea level, sauna and steam bath are all complimentary. The spa treatments are reasonably priced and well worth it. Restaurants are very nice. Some are casual, some are formal. You can walk to Funchal (20 min). Also, lots of restaurants around if you choose to leave the property. The casino is just down the street. I was there just before embarking on a cruise. I had walked past the port the day before, but took a cab (very reasonable) when carrying my luggage. I highly recommend the hotel and will plan to go back.
The Vidamar is located about 25 minutes walk west of Funchal main centre on the edge of the main hotel district. This means that the location is convenient yet quiet. The hotel has recently added an excellent sports facility with well equipped gym and many classes inc pump, spinning etc. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the new half board package gives you the option of a 15 euros per person option at one of the 3 on restaurants if you choose not to go for the all inclusive evening buffet option. Great value and a very relaxing holiday.
