Extended our holiday by staying for 3 nights here. The location and setting were excellent. Take time to explore the orchard, it was wonderful. The breakfasts catered for every possible taste and the only meal we ate in was excellent.
Just a reasonable downhill walk into Funchal centre,this comfortable old house style hotel has spotless swimming pool with sun beds to laze in on the days not spent out & about.getting around is easy,bus stops all a hop away,parking in the grounds,really delightful views,& if traffic noise gets you down ask for quiet bedrooms at the rear.

Stayed in hotel for an extended period of 11 days in late October.
Holiday plans were to spend sometime relaxing and enjoy the sun and the rest walking the levadas.
Hotel was a great base to do that.
Pool area is small, overlooking the main road below and beyond out to sea. Was not busy whilst we were there - we were able to enjoy the sun in peace and were not aware of road noise from below.
Lido area on sea front an easy 5 minute walk downhill. Very close to supermarket and good choice of restaurants.
Staff we always polite and front desk very happy to help us plan our trips - mostly using local buses - out and about in the island.
Room was clean and everything in good working order.

The hotel if picturesque with a lovely outside pool area, jacuzzi & spa. The rooms are nice very spacious but the beds were a little spingey for my liking.
The breakfast buffet is great, huge selection and efficient waiting staff, eating breakfast by the pool was wonderful due to excellent views.
A short walk to the town centre and old town and 2 mins to casino.
A perfect destination to relax.
We have stayed at this hotel each year, and sometimes twice a year, for some time.
Wonderful place and great staff. This year we noticed that the reduction in staff numbers does compromise the quality of the visit but it will not stop us returning next year.
Everything about this hotel was right, with dedicated attention to detail in all aspects. The facilities are superb, with faultless service in every area. We stayed in a top floor sea view room with a fabulous outlook, and appreciated the luxurious comfy bed, and the thoughtful extra touches, such as complimentary chilled fruit juices and water, fresh flowers and evening chocolates. Enjoyed fantastic food and excellent service in the Michelin starred 'Il Gallo D'oro' restaurant, which we cannot recommend highly enough, and my special dietary requirements (GF) were gracefully accommodated. Pool and Spa facilities are top class. The hotel is a pleasant 10-15 minute walk into Funchal, with a complimentary bus service if preferred. My husband and I felt pampered from the minute we arrived at The Cliff Bay and this is definitely a hotel to visit if you want to relax and unwind in a beautiful location, and where nothing is too much trouble for the lovely staff. We definitely hope to return soon.
The Vidamar is located about 25 minutes walk west of Funchal main centre on the edge of the main hotel district. This means that the location is convenient yet quiet. The hotel has recently added an excellent sports facility with well equipped gym and many classes inc pump, spinning etc. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the new half board package gives you the option of a 15 euros per person option at one of the 3 on restaurants if you choose not to go for the all inclusive evening buffet option. Great value and a very relaxing holiday.
