GREAT apartment for Hervey Bay

Posted 04-Jul-2014
Pros: Lots of space.Spotlessly clean. Our view overlooking the trees looking right at the ocean & personal laundry equipment IN the unit.
Cons: Make the pool and hot tub hotter (104 F) in the winter months.
Location: Great food. Ocean walks. Fraser Island Tours. Whale/dolphin watching. Much more...
We LOVED Akama! Spotlessly clean. Conveniently located to: the local fish house to buy seafood and cook your own meals; local beaches; restaurants and so on. Our hosts Chris and Henrietta booked a whole day tour of Fraser Island for us with Fraser Island Tours. We LOVED that too! The tour company picked us up right out in front of Akama. Our hosts at Akama were a wealth of local information and assistance. With their help, we explored up and down the coast in and around Hervey Bay, (Loved Toogum too) walked on the surrounding beaches, walked out on the pier to see the pods of dolphins feeding and enjoyed the beautiful sunsets. They referred us to restaurants that could accommodate our dietary needs (vegetarian and gluten-free). Akama is well worth every dollar and very conveniently located for all traveler's needs in Hervey Bay.

Well presented resort in good location.

Posted 27-Apr-2014
Pros: The friendly, helpful staff, the well appointed rooms and the large balcony.
Cons: More comfortable seats on the balcony.
Location: Very close to restaurants, beaches and ferries to Fraser Island.
We had a very enjoyable 3 night stay at the Akama, it was our first visit to Hervey Bay and the staff were very helpful with suggestions about the area. We would definitely stay there again and recommend it to friends.

Modern apartment-style overlooking harbor/ocean

Posted 09-Mar-2014
The Akama is a very nice apartment style accommodation. Its modern, clean and functional, but - particularly for Expedia users - it may be important to point out that it is not a hotel. The concierge has limited hrs : 8.30am - 5.30pm (but is very friendly and helpful when there) and there is no daily cleaning. There is no restaurant/breakfast service on site and guests are asked to take out the trash when leaving. Also - internet is quite expensive ($16 per device and day); not particularly fast (although advised as such) and with limited download (1 Gb/day). We only stayed for two nights and were greeted by a personalized note when we arrived after office hrs (~ 6.30pm). The concierge came down to get us settled in and we got immediate help with booking a tour to Fraser Island the following day. However, when only staying two nights and being away most of the time when the office was open, we were never able to figure out minor things like how to open the large glass doors to the beautiful balcony, or how to get coffee in the room. In summary, the Akama is probably more suitable for guests staying longer, and with larger families - for which the large spacious rooms and kitchen facilities will be more useful than to one couple.

Hi Kristin - thank you for taking the time to post a review. As you have pointed out, we are a self catering property with very well appointed fully self contained apartments. Our apartments always bring comments from our guests especially the travelers wanting their own space. The management live on site and are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week, but as you have also mentioned with a late arrival and a full day tour to Fraser Island on your second day and then departure on the morning of the third, you did not have the time to appreciate all that our beautiful complex has to offer. You would not have had a chance to visit the busy marina opposite Akama Resort where you would have found restaurants, cafes and shopping, all within a three minute walk. We hope you have the chance to visit Hervey Bay again as we would love to welcome you back - hopefully, for a longer stay next time. Kind regards, Chris & Henriette - on site managers

Excellent hotel near to Marina and Boat Club

Posted 19-Oct-2013
Pros: Overall service, facilities and location are just wonderful
Cons: Too bad we had to be charged for an extra airbed which wasn't used as our little one slept in the big bed with us. But if that's policy - it's policy.
Excellent service and great communication with manager Regina! The room was amazing and beds comfortable.

Really nice apartment

Posted 27-Aug-2013
Pros: Everything, the size and layout of the rooms, the great amenities, the staff, the facilities.
Cons: Just great as it is.
Location: Great restaurants in Hervey bay, especially seafood. Great for walking down the esplanade. Tours to Fraser island or whale watching.
From the moment we walked into our two bedroom apartment we knew we had chosen the right accommodation. It was so spacious and well decorated. Really clean and we loved the views and access to the pool and bbq area through the glass doors that opened on our own private (huge )patio area. The staff were so friendly and helpful. It is really well located if you are planning to go on the ferry across to Fraser island or a whale watching cruise.

Everything you want

Posted 26-Aug-2013
Pros: clean comfortable and close to everything without being too close
Cons: mint on pillow
Location: Fishing, walking, exploring, relaxing. what more do you need
We were pleasantly surprised when we opened our door to discover that the room was breathtaking, the view was terrific, the rooms were spacious and clean, and the beds were comfy. Even when I went into main office the 2 staff who were talking to each other stopped immediately and greeted me with a smile and a warm welcome. I will certainly be going back next time I'm in town
