We are an American couple traveling for vacation in Europe. I speak German moderately well, my husband not at all. We stayed one night in Darmstadt, en route to a different location. My German friends told us that "no one goes to Darmstadt, there is nothing to see." Needless to say, we had pretty low expectations. We were driving a car and I will say that the one problem with this hotel was that you cannot drive up to the front. The location had our GPS very confused. We were also confused and didn't realize (until our second time stressfully round-abouting back through the city) that you need to drive down into the large platz parking garage in order to be able to reach the hotel.
Anyhow, once we were parked in the CORRECT parking garage, our stay from there was wonderful. I conversed in German while checking in and was delighted to find out that the employee we dealt with spoke flawless English. She was more than happy to speak English (which I do appreciate but find slightly embarrassing at the same time.)
Our room was great, it looked to be newly remodeled. We checked out the "fitness center" and wished we had brought out bathing suits. In the evening we took a walk through the "castle" across the street and found a really great beer garden called the Ratskeller. They have fantastic beer and food. We spent many hours there and then walked through the shopping district. The area was much livelier and vibrant than I would have imagined!
I love to land at this hotel after long flights from india. The contrast is dramatic and i immediately feel i can relax and begin to rejuvenate myself. the architecture and well maintained style of the Steigenberger Frankfurter hof is beautiful and feeds my soul.
i love to take advantage of the gorgeous SPA and relax completely. I always know that however many nights i am able to stay will never feel like enough!
We arrived early and the staff allow us check in anyway. The beds are firm and comfortable. Upon talking to the front desk staff, their response to our request of extra bed is within 15 minutes. Not many restaurants around the area. Dining in the hotel is a bit pricey but good services. Nice walk to river bank. Close to subway station. Next to supermarket. No free airport shuttle. It was surprise that WiFi was free when we check out.
Spent 2 weeks here in August 2014. Excellent location. Walking distance to two groceries, drug and convenience stores. 1/2 mile from some quaint shops and many varied cuisine restaurants, fast food too. Banks and other necessities close. Hotel staff was very accommodating and courteous. Decent sized room, clean shower, large windows & free WiFi. Great breakfast buffet and surprisingly better than average dinner menu. Nice lounge with large outside patio. Well stocked bar with comfy seating. All in all this hotel was much better than I had anticipated for the more than reasonable price. Will stay there again in December.
