“We were impressed with the spaciousness of our room and balcony.”

We were impressed with the friendliness of all personnel at the resort.

    Area recommendations
Must visit the J.N. "Ding" Darling nature center. Take the tours as the "explorer-leaders" are very dedicated and informative guides. Bring along a camera and if possible a wide-angle lens. Birds, alligators, dolphins, fish of all kinds are a must see.
    When to go
If you can get away during non-peak times the breaks in fees and amenities provided add to the trip. We loved Sanibel.

    “Our 2nd time here.”

We stayed at this hotel back in 2009 and liked it then and liked it now. The two minor things against a 5 rating is that the bed was too soft for our comfort. The other thing is that the people in the room next to us up and decided to start smoking in their room even though the whole hotel is non smoking. We informed the front desk and the woman said she would drop them a strong hint against smoking. I guess I was hoping she would have called them up right then and there or just kicked them out of the place and charged them a hefty cleaning fee. The breakfast that they serve is standard donuts and muffins. We really love their pool. Is it the largest hotel pool outside of Hawaii that we have seen.

    “See you next year”

Hotel staff very pleasant. We arrived early and our room was not ready. There was this nice lady who was able to find a room available to suit our needs. Unfortunately I did not get her name. (Blonde hair with glasses). But all the staff was just as nice. Beach within walking distance from our room. Beautiful sunsets everynight. The Old Cow was good and the Bubble room was also good. If you like to kayak. Take a guided tour at tarpon bay. Michael was really nice and new alot about the area and it's history. 2 1/2 hours $53.00 child and adult 2 seat kayak. Hopefully we will be back next year.

“"Second time, will do lots more!"”

This was our second time visiting this property. The location is perfect, room comfortable and the price- you can't beat it .

    Area recommendations
Would recommend lots of walks and shelling on the beach, visiting the lighthouse, checking out the local museum and eating at " the Cow." Can't beat the price, quality or quantity of their food.

    “Not all that comfortable”

I travelled with my children to the Sanibel Sunset Beach Hotel. The hotel had a great location, steps from the beach. The grounds were pretty well kept. The room was fairly clean aside from some dust and filthy bed skirts. The floor was tiled which was ok for a sandy location, but gave the room an uncomfortable feel. Many people commented on the poor repair of the bikes they offered for no charge. I thought they were ok for being free and I appreciated this perk. Complimentary breakfast was nice every morning, what you would expect for continental. The beach chairs and umbrellas needed some repair and the pool was very dirty our last 2 days after the holiday crowd moved out. Apparently, they don't clean it every day when they aren't busy. The ladies in the lobby were very nice. Overall, for the price, it was a decent place. I'm not sure I would choose it again though.

    Dining
The Island Cow is fabulous! Big portions and a large menu, also a fun atmosphere. The restaurant in Jerry's Grocery Store is good too with yummy pies and dessert and very reasonably priced. Stay away from The Bubble Room on Captiva. It's famous and a cool place, but the food is extremely over priced! We had 3 sandwiches(no sides) and drinks( no refills on soda) and 2 desserts for lunch and it was nearly 60.00!!!
    Outdoors or beach
Make sure you stay indoors in the evening, the no seeums and mosquitos are horrible. And pack beach shoes...there are so many shells, it hurts to walk on the beach in bare feet.

    “Best stay so far”

We just got back from Sanibel Island (yesterday) so my memory as fresh as it can be. This was our first trip with our now 2 year old. We arrived Thursday at 1 pm and our room was ready and waiting as I asked when booking the hotel. That was nice. Because it was mid week there were few people but more arrived for the Memorial Day weekend. It was such a treat to have ocean so close to the hotel and have beach chairs and umbrellas waiting for us every morning. There were no more than 4-5 people at the pool and same for the beach, we always found empty beach chairs and swimming in the ocean almost by ourselves was great! We saw few dolphins not far from the beach the day before we left. I would suggest renting a car, in this heat it isn't so great to walk few miles to the restaurant. We loved Chip's Steakhouse and Seafood. It was our best stay so far because we loved the quiet hotel, not crowded pool and beach area. I would also suggest going on the Thriller boat ride to see the dolphins up-close. The Marina is about 15 min away from the hotel and the ride is 1.5 hour, one of the best attractions we've been on. I called the hotel prior to booking the room so I knew exactly what I was getting, do the same if you're not sure, the front desk people are very helpful. As for breakfast, it isn't a full continental breakfast with eggs and meat, mostly bakery food with coffee and juices but it was enough to keep us going. We would go back again, no questions asked!

    Area recommendations
Captiva Island, Lighthouse, Marina with boat rides. And lots and lots of bug spray for the evening walks on the beach.
