Wonderful stay! We were lucky that a mistake led to an upgrade - the type of room we had booked ended up being unavailable, so we were upgraded to a suite overlooking the water and hotel pool. The hotel staff were extremely sweet and accommodating, they didn't even make a big deal about the fact that we were being upgraded - they only told us when we were brought to the room and I realized it was much larger than what we had booked! The breakfast was also wonderful, and ended up being included in the price of the room to my surprise, even though we had it as room service. We will definitely stay here again!
As a senior couple with travel experience, we were intrigued my the good reviews for the many low-cost homestays at Fort Cochin. However, we thought a medium priced hotel would offer more privacy and independence. Hotel No. 18 fit the bill perfectly. The rooms are very clean and well equipped, also good wi-fi. Each time we walked into the room we were greeted with cool air-conditioning, a relief from the typical hot climate outside. Rain Tree Restaurant was excellent. The manager greeted us on our arrival and each time came up to see how he could best serve us. He was very flexible in helping us order everything to our preference. The menu has a nice variety of inexpensive Indian dishes and I was able to order a delicious fish prepared in Keralan fashion—a little more in cost, but quite reasonable. Outside the restaurant there is a nice raised patio where we spent several hours each day people watching as we enjoyed a cold drink or a meal outdoors. The staff at the desk were very helpful—even making several calls to arrange an overnight Boat trip from Aleppy including transportation from the hotel. The Location of the hotel is ideal just one block up from the ferry on Jacob Street. Walking west on Tower Street we immediately came to a whole street of outdoor restaurants and then the Bastion and fishnets on the beach. We walked straight south on Jacob to visit Santa Cruz church and then just beyond that to take in a Kathakali dance performance—a must. Hotel No. 18
We were very glad we booked this hotel instead of others. It is a small hotel in colonial style with some really nice décor. The room was clean and bright with a bathroom that was more like a 5 star hotel. The staff were super friendly and helped us arrange local trips. We had already done a lot and our plans did not fit the pre-packaged one so they organised local guides and we had a wonderful time. The hotel is in the middle of Fort Kochi which meant that is within walking distance to all attraction. The food was amazing starting with breakfast and dinner. Since the hotel has only a small number of rooms the facilities were very private. The pool is small but given the location it is great to have one. We spend the afternoons on the pool and were mostly alone. We really enjoyed our stay.
It was a great experience where the staff were friendly & attentive. The first day during breakfast i asked for a small bowl for my half boiled eggs, the next day they remembered & brought for me without me asking. Breakfast was nice too & u can hv unlimited amt of fruit juice.
