With peaceful walking paths, sporting areas and grassy lawns, this large city park in downtown Savannah is perfect for a day outside.

Play tennis, basketball and many other sports at Forsyth Park. Relax by a historic fountain laid out in the mid-19th century. Located within walking distance from many of Savanna’s public squares and buildings of architectural significance, the park is a great destination for a lunchtime picnic or an afternoon in the sun.

Forsyth Park is located in the historic district of Savannah, close to St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, Ralph Mark Gilbert Civil Rights Museum and the Historic Savannah Theatre, among other major local attractions. The park hosts events year-round, including farmers’ markets and outdoor music concerts.

Look for the Forsyth Park Fountain, a historic monument at the north end of the park. The exquisite fountain was built in the mid-19th century. Visit the park on St. Patrick’s Day to join hundreds of Savannah locals in dying the fountain’s water green.

Enjoy a casual game of soccer or Frisbee on the open lawns. Attend a farmers market and watch performances by local musicians or shop for fresh produce and handicrafts. Markets are usually held on Saturdays throughout the year. After the market, take your produce to a quiet spot in the park to enjoy a picnic with family or friends.

Find the Historic Savannah Theatre a short walk from the centre of Forsyth Park. This remarkable theatre was built in the early 19th century and stages musicals and local theatre performances. Take a short drive to the hauntingly beautiful Bonaventure Cemetery, about 4 miles (6 kilometres) from the park. This historic cemetery is filled with Southern Gothic monuments and the burial sites of many famous Savannah citizens.

Forsyth Park is open daily from sunrise to sunset. It's located in the historic district of Savannah, within walking distance of the Savannah River. The park is also surrounded by many luxurious hotels and less expensive self-catered apartments. Visit the park’s café for coffee and light meals.

Regarded as one of the largest and most attractive public parks in Savannah, Forsyth Park is an excellent place to relax and take in the Georgian summer atmosphere.
