The hotel staff was kind, helpful, and personable. Our room was lovely with a great street view from the window. The room included a work area and a reading nook. The area was lively, but with a feeling of being safe as we walked to various restaurants and other places. The entire Melrose experience was great.
The lobby smelled very strongly of a strong air freshener (or maybe an employee's cologne). The hotel's parking was full when I got there at 5 pm, but thankfully someone was leaving just as I arrived so I managed to nab a spot (thanks to a kind employee). Otherwise, I'd have been out of luck for the night and had to find street parking blocks away in the pouring rain. The room was clean, but the sofa made me itch...badly...as soon as I sat on it. Facilities in kitchen were old and worn but clean. When I went down to the lobby in the morning expecting to find breakfast options and coffee, I found just a few cold danishes and coffee - both for an a la carte charge. I would possibly stay there again because the location was very convenient, but I'd go in with lower expectations and only stay if I got a REALLY great deal on the room. Bring your own Keurig coffee pods because they only give you two and don't have any to offer guests in the lobby, except for $4 for plain coffee at breakfast!
This hotel was great for its location near Foggy Bottom subway and a 10 min walk from the White House and Georgetown. The kitchenette was really useful too as we are on a long holiday and don't want to eat out all the time. The most useful thing was that the hotel room catered for our teens who don't want to share a bed, with a sofa bed and rollaway bed. Staff were lovely. However the facilities were tired.
So named because of the fog that once rolled into the neighborhood from the Potomac River, Foggy Bottom is home to some of the capitol's most important landmarks, including the Kennedy Center, the Department of State, and the World Bank. With visitors that include celebrities and international dignitaries, it's no wonder the neighborhood offers plenty of sophisticated lodging and dining options.
