“Will never go back...”
Will never go back. -impossible to use air-conditioner-can not sleep at all with this terrible sound...Air-conditioner box is from 70s -fridge is from 70s also -stove works only partly -can not lock door in the bathroom -promised WiFi (and we specifically called about it) works only when people are in the office (8-6 pm). When they go home, you would not be able to get internet -table-lamp was put together with scotch and so on...and so on... -they advertised their property on Expedia as "1 bedroom"...now changed to "studio" We trusted latest reviews expecting some changes, thought...it is just 1 night......but property was not updated in last 40 years (?) or such... Do not stop, you will find other places twice cheaper and better quality
“Seashell beach”
If you are looking for the Ritz, stay at the Ritz. But if you are looking for a quaint out of the way place on the ocean 10 miles from "7" Mile bridge and 57 miles to Key west this is a nice place. The beach is more crushed white coral than sand and the water is not very deep at shore but is very peaceful and relaxing. And Biker friendly, becareful in parking lot in deep sand/coral For night time entertainment check out the Brass Monkey next to the K-mart locals place with Live bands
“Looking forward to next year”
Nice small peaceful resort. Looking right out onto the ocean. We loved it here. There are plenty of other beaches in Marathon if you need to go swimming. The long docks are nice to see the rays, nurse sharks and fish. Our room had a kitchen which was the best. We really enjoyed our stay.
“Great One Nighter”
We were very surprised at how nice this place was. It is very small and right off the highway. It is outside of the town so it is a quite little getaway and it was great. I saw pictures and thought for sure that because it was so inexpensive that it was not going to be a good experience, I am glad that I was wrong. This is not a luxury resort so if you or family is really picky of where you sleep then don’t stay here. We arrived late for check-in that the lady at the front desk was very helpful and ensure that our stay was hassle free!! If you enjoy a nice quite, inexpensive place with a view then stay here! Great 2-Star!
“My Purpose-Driven Hotel Selection”
I planned to go diving in Marathon over the weekend. I've stayed in matchboxes in the Keys before and hoped this would be nice. It definitely was. For the price, and what I planned to do in it (sleep in between dives), it was the perfect selection for me. Not 5-star, but clean, nice big bed, and comfortable. Nice grounds and dock from which you can swim and snorkel. No real beachfront from which you can swim. I'll return with my wife next time, which shows my confidence in the selection.
“Very Tranquil picture postcard location”
Very pleased with our visit. If you want a quiet peaceful place to stay this was it. Location was beautiful. Only 10 rooms so very private. I will be going back again..
“Quaint little hotel”
Stayed in August, 2011...This is no luxurious resort, but very cute and quaint. Very nice staff. I stayed in their smallest room, double bed with "side" view of ocean. I was very happy with the view, not really a side view. Standing in the doorway , you can see the ocean, dock, trees and it is a lovely view. You also have this view from the window. The room is very small, just a mini fridge, small table/chairs, dresser, TV and bed. The room could have been cleaner and needs a little updating. There is the man made beach and you can access the water from both docks, but not any shoreline to walk on. There is a lot of seaweed and some debris in the seaweed and a bit of a smell when you are near all the seaweed, but it just smells like ocean. I spent a lot of time on the docks and it was not bad AT ALL. Overall, loved the location, north of the business district, but anywhere is a drive, which is fine with me! I think a lot of the negative reviews are coming from folks who assume this is some kind of Hilton resort rather than the Keysey place that it is, but I also did not visit the other rooms. Would definitely come back... not into the luxurious, crowded places like in Key West.
“Should be bargain basement”
We had done a bit of research and read other people's review of this hotel and were left with a mixed impression, so we decided to take a chance. Big mistake! The hotel and location could be charming if the management put any effort into maintaining it. The "beach" was disgraceful - full of seaweed and garbage. We know they can't do too much about the seaweed on Grassy Key - but it looked like they never took a rake to it or picked up the debris. The rooms are very small and dated with bathrooms not updated since probably the 60's. The smell from the seaweed is overwhelming - I'm not sure if the hotel can do much about that. To top it off, right after we had parked for the night, a coconut fell on the hood of our car - leaving a big dent. Looking around, there were ripe coconuts hanging from most of the trees in the parking area. We mentioned it to the manager in the morning and were told "that happens." Our advice - if you can stay somewhere else, do.
“Pictures are no longer accurate”
Not all rooms have an ocean view, not that you would want one. There was lots of sea grass and garbage piled up at the beach(I use that term loosely) and the smell was not pleasant though tolerable. There was no microwave the tv was tiny, they don't provide soap or shampoo and the room service never changed the sheets on our bed for the 4 nights we were there. As other reviewers have said, spend a little more and get a much nicer place. That said, if you just need a place to sleep, the view wasn't bad and the bed okay. The walls are a bit thin if you have noisy neighbors.
“VERY bad smell from seaweed, beach not suitable for swimming”
We arrived late at night, and found the room acceptable. However the smell war awfull, and the noise from aircon. terrible. There was only 2 chairs and very limitet equipment in general. There was a VERY bad smell from seaweed, and the beach is not suitable for swimming. IF - and only IF - the beach was cleaned for seaweed, and garbage, the location is fine. That is the most positive we can think of.
