“a reason to go back”

we celebrated our 40th wedding anniversary at the Heron House,...it was the best thing we could have done,... Jeff and Josh and the rest of the staff were very professional and extremely helpful,.. in suggesting new places to eat and very helpful with the parking dilema known as Key West,... "mono rail baby" We would highly recommend the Heron House ..close to the action of duval street and the quiet walks of old town,...

Area recommendations
Old Town ,... quiet clean and safe.
Getting around
Ask the price of the peddle cabs ...thought they were a little pricey

“Quaint”

Positives:- Location and a beautiful setting. Negatives:- Lot of outside noise coming through the windows/air con unit. Hot/warm water will get there but you have to be patient. Wooden walls and was unlucky in having a rather amorous couple next door.Late evening and morning.Lucky fella though :-) Fell in love with Key West which is a world apart from Miami and despite the minor negatives we would stay here again.

Area recommendations
Anywhere close to Duvall Street. It's where it all happens.

“Would stay at Heron House again when return to Key West.”

Nice Place. Quiet and relaxing. In the center, so you can walk everywhere. Only problem (not Heron House's fault) is the lack of parking on Key West - mostly residential parking around Heron House; I ended up parking about 6 blocks away on the street.

“Adults Only Relaxing Location”

Nice property. Very well kept. Convenient to Duval Street - just one block away, but very quiet and relaxing. Only con I have is the beds. Felt the springs in the mattress and the pillows were worn and flat. Recommend they replace. Aside from that I highly recommend.

“A terrific location in Key West”

The Heron House has an ideal location for easy access to the things to see in Key West. Duval Street is an easy 1 1/2 block walk. The Historic Seaport - where you'll find charters and lots of good restaurants - is an easy 4 blocks away. When we were in Key West, we parked our car at the Heron House and didn't take it out again except to drive to Bahia Honda State Park. Our room at the Heron House was extremely comfortable and well appointed. We especially appreciated the large closet space and in-room safe, the refrigerator and the bar sink. The seating area on the verandah outside the room was a terrific place to drink coffee and read the morning paper. And the pool area was very attractive - a great place to spend part of each day! An added benefit was the sundeck, with its lounge chairs and feeling of extreme privacy. Although the Heron House is close to Duval Street, we found it to be very quiet. The only downside we identified was the air conditioning, which was provided by window air conditioners - noisy. Otherwise, this hotel more than met our expectations and we would certainly recommend it to anyone visiting Key West.

Area recommendations
Key West's Old Town is the area to stay in. If you stay in New Town, you'll end up spending a good part of each day trying to find parking in Old Town. The classic things to see in Key West are almost all in Old Town, and the parking is at a premium. The best area in our opinion is within walking distance of both Duval Street and the Historic Seaport. Other than some restaurants in Old Town that are not within easy walking distance of either Duval Street or the Historic Seaport, staying within that immediate area would give you walking access to probably 90% of what you would want to see in Key West.
When to go
We've been to Key West in both February and, most recently, October. The weather in February is not as hot or as humid as in October, although we've been told the water quality for snorkeling and swimming is better in October than in the winter months. I guess when to go depends on whether the water activities are really important - if so, then the summer and early fall is probably a better choice because the water is warmer and has better visibility than later in the year.
Getting around
If you're careful about where you stay, there really is no reason to get around other than by foot. Parking - or really lack of parking - is really the biggest downside of visiting Key West. Where we stayed, we paid a daily fee for parking on the street. Many parking spaces - even around the Duval Street and History Seaport areas - are marked "residential only." The alternative to driving around Key West is to rent a bike, which also works well. There are several bike rental places where you can rent a one-speed for a reasonable amount per day - just be sure to use the bike locks!
Must see
I have a pretty long list of "must sees" for Key West: The Mel Fisher Museum - very professionally done, extremely interesting, very educational. The aquarium - built back in the '30s, but has some terrific displays, including the shark tank Mallory Square - every night it's a carnival, with vendors and performers and, best of all, a terrific sunset. Fort Jefferson - the weirdest thing you'll ever see from a boat. Takes up nearly one day, but totally worth it The Hemingway House - enough said. The "Litte White House" and the Truman Annex - terrific examples of Old Key West architecture The Historic Seaport, with all the cruise offerings and charters - something for everyone The Conch Train Tour - looks kind of dopey, but a great way to get introduced to Key West history, its neighborhoods, and architecture

“Yin and yang”

There were ants in my bathroom. The A/C window unit was hard to modulate, either too cold or too hot. Breakfast was great. Great place to relax. Could not receive wi-fi in the room.

“great place to relax and recover”

All in all, a great place to stay in Key West. Nine breakfast each morning, just enough to get you going for the day. Desk service was very professional and helpful. Our suite was great with a private porch, wet bar and fridge. One suggestion would be to add some towel racks in the bath. If one wants to conserve and use the towel the next day, there is limited room to hang it. A good touch would be to put some drawer or shelf under the bath sink to allow more storage of toiletries. Housekeeping was fair only because our soap and shampoo was never replaced. Fortunately, we brought our own. We never asked for more since we thought it would have been provided with the make up of the room. Would definitely stay here again.

Area recommendations
Take your time to see the whole island. Great fun!
Getting around
Try not to drive. Best take the trolley, tram or rent a skooter
Dining
Check out Duffy's steak and lobster house. Reasonable and great food. Also, Abondonza for Italian food. Plenty large portions and reasonable price. Overboard Bar has great Raw Bar. Baggatelle has a great breakfast with reasonable price.
