Place has changed couples stay away!!!

Posted 21-May-2015
Pros: Leaving
Cons: Rooms/decks in drastic need of maintenance. Mosquito control needed. Soundproofing between rooms added. Wait staff trained better.
Been going to Hawks Cay since 1986. Always had a great time never thought it would turn from a classy adult retreat into a kids free for all. Will not be returning. Have been staying in the first floor rooms lanai with private deck for many years and never before have I been disappointed till now. Had been booked for eight nights and left after six. Was able to hear the person in the next room snoring all night long with kids screaming and crying at five in the morning everyday and we were on the adult side. Kids throwing things off balconies from upper floors on the adult side.Televisions blasting cartoons at six in the morning. Could not even sit outside because of the lack of mosquito control. No view of water while sitting on deck due to untrimmed greenery. Photos on web site show beautiful view when sitting on deck. When in reality no view of water due to overgrown neglected greenery. Private deck was a worn out splintered mess, drastically in need of a paint job. Restaurants were a mess with lousy food and out of control groups of unsupervised children. We were lucky to find decent places off grounds to dine.

Nice amenities for teens & adults

Posted 21-May-2015
Pros: Cleanliness and saltwater lagoon.
Cons: The area in which our room was could use some updating, starting to show wear and tear.
Location: key west, islamoroda to jet ski, fishing boat, and snorkeling.
Great family vacation. Our childrens favorite amenity was the salt water lagoon, for snorkeling, paddleboarding, and kayaking. Due to the time of our stay only other amentity was the movie night and nightly fire pit. If I was to choose one negative it would be the cost of the restaurants, we spent most of our evenings out traveling to Islamarada for dinner. Overall great location!!!!

Hotel

Posted 19-May-2015
This hotel is gorgeous and the villas are def. more than what I expected . The costumer service in another hand totally blows . Sad to say, but I believe a place like that should have a better front desk and costumer service

Pros: Nothing much.
They will charge your above and beyond, even if you pay in full ahead of time. Not a good place, stay away!

Mother's day weekend

DJ playing too loud and terrible music on saturday. The sofa bed was terrible and sheets and pillows not provided for the sofa bed. Called front desk and waited 45 minutes for them.

Nice, quiet Sunset Villa with a beautiful view.

Posted 09-May-2015
Pros: I liked that our villa had 2 and 1/2 baths and plenty of room for the 5 of us. It was nice to have a full kitchen and a pool nearby.
Cons: Some of the spoons in our drawer were sharp at the tips and could be replaced.
Location: We liked that we were 1 and 1/2 hours from Key West and that we were half way down the keys. It made it nice to not be in a car all day.
My husband and I and our kids ages 18, 17 and 8 stayed at Sunset Villa 5107. It was nice to have 2 stories with balconies off of each bedroom and one off the living room. It was very quiet except the porches off of the living room were very close to our neighboring porches, but it really didn't bother us too much. There was a small area of beach sand which kept our 8 year old entertained. Also, we had a pool just across the street which was convenient. The older kids and I did a snorkeling excursion which we enjoyed. My younger son really liked the Indies Club and we spent a fair amount of time doing activities there like soccer and mini golf. The main pool was a short walk (maybe 10 min) from where we stayed. The tram service wasn't very reliable-maybe because it was a less busy time of year. Also, the wifi didn't work from our villa, but it did work from the Indies Club and the main pool area. It was nice to have a full kitchen so we could have breakfast and lunch in and go out to dinner elsewhere. We enjoyed Burdine's in Marathon and had a lot of fun feeding the tarpon in Islamarada. Key West was about a 1 and 1/2 hour drive and we enjoyed dinner and walking around town one day. All in all, we had a really nice time!

The whole resort was beautiful

Posted 07-May-2015
Everything was just like the pictures. Our family swam with the Dolphins, which was magic. Rooms were great, clean. The only down side was the extra fees but all resorts have them. Very $$$ but worth it. Will go again next year

Beautiful common areas, dated disappointing rooms,

Posted 04-May-2015
Pros: Location, location, location. beautiful vista and common areas
Cons: Update rooms, change bed linens more often, better bathroom, amenities include daily house keeping service.
Beautiful common areas lobby, pools, fire pit, ballroom and beach. Room was dated worn tile, 1980's alarm clock, very small bedrooms in two bedroom villa. Queen bed barely fit in room. TV picture fuzzy, most channels not working. Huge cobb webs in kitchen, poor bath amenities, poor quality towels, no coffee packs left in room to use. small bathroom vanity, queen bed had twin mattress pad stretched across that kept popping up. NO DAILY HOUSEKEEPING SERVICE included

Hawks Cay Villas with two small children

Posted 04-May-2015
Pros: Loved the kids amenities. Our sunset villa came with its own splash pool which was awesome.
Cons: The wireless internet needs to work for guests.
Location: Went to Sombrero Beach in Marathon. Groceries are easily bought in Marathon (10 miles away).
We spent 4 nights in mid-April 2015 at Hawks Cay Resort with our two small children (23 months and 5 1/2). We stayed in the Sunset Villas away from the heart of the resort. The tram made it easy to move around the large resort without driving or having to walk everywhere with two little kids. By far the highlight was the kids pool area that included the Pirate Ship pool. I asked my daughter her top three favorite things about our 2 week vacation to the Florida Keys and the Hawks Cay Pirate Ship pool made the list. We were disappointed to find that the wireless internet in the Villa did not work due to a large infrastructure project to fix/upgrade it all. It would have been nice if this was proactively explained to all guests instead of letting us believe it worked until we figured out that it did not. Since my husband was there to vacation and work - this was a HUGE inconvenience for us. I plan to return to Hawks Cay but NOT until the wireless internet is working again in the Villas. Large property with 5 different pools, including an adults only pool. Loved that our villa had laundry and a dishwasher - a must while on vacation with kids. The villa was a bit on the small side - which could be an issue if you were a larger person and needed room to move. Clearly the units were designed to maximize the number of units on the property.
