A bit over priced

Posted 28-Aug-2014
The villa was very nice. It faced the marina and the bed was extremely comfortable. The restaurants had good food but not much to choose from, the menu didn't change, very pricey for mediocre food, and some of the wait staff was rude. The rest of the staff was professional and helpful. There were a lot excursions available at a reasonable cost.

Pretty swanky (yes, Swanky)!!

Posted 26-Aug-2014
Pros: Everything.
Cons: Nothing.
Location: In between Key Largo and Key West--plenty to do on nearby Marathon too!
My husband and I took our kids here last week for four days and we were very surprised by just how nice the resort was! Some other "resorts" we saw on other Keys were definitely no where near on par with the luxury of Hawks Cay---SO worth the money! The kids had a blast in the hotel pools and the ambiance is very relaxing for adults too--plenty for all age groups to do. The staff was nice and helpful. The room was clean and in nice condition. The beds are on the firm side, which a friend we met there and my husband were not fans of. I liked them just fine though so to each their own. The food is good at the resort, and Duck Key is close to other amazing resturants on other Keys too. Would definitely go back again!!

Hawks Cay in Florida Keys

Posted 20-Aug-2014
Pros: The rooms were nice. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. There were ample choices of restaurants and each was very good.
Cons: The trams that shuttle people around the resort could run more frequently. It was easy to catch one from the main lobby, but difficult from our room.
Location: Key West, multple state parks and beaches, dolphin encounter, dockside restaurants.
We stayed in a one of the Sunset Villas. It was very clean and well prepared for our arrival. The splash pool was fun for the kids. The back patio and upper balcony were great for relaxing. We spent about half the time at the various pools and lagoon swimming and relaxing and the other half driving up and down the Keys sightseeing. It was a great week for the family.

fairly nice hotel...with catches...

Posted 17-Aug-2014
Pros: fresh water and salt water lagoon
Cons: food on premises and other silly regulations
lots of things to enjoy, with the entire family, including salt (ocean) water lagoon, swimming with dolphins (must book ahead, ours was sold out when we got to the hotel), fresh water pool, clean, fresh rooms. Only downside was plenty of fineprints and patrons not allowed to bring their own food & (non-alcoholic) drink to the pool, being forced to either eat in our rooms or buy from the fairly expensive on-premises bars/dining places! The servers making rounds every few minutes to inspect if you have food that's from outside of premises.... ridiculous. Also, renting a paddleboard, with one one paddle per board, silly, when there were quite a few available with many spare paddles for each unit.... really!? Oh, and you must have the deck chairs in a specific position (wiggle room about a foot or so), so as to not obstruct walkway at all... really? they should have a manual of fine-prints for all to see.

Nice resort not "oceanfront"

Posted 15-Aug-2014
Pros: Saltwater lagoon, over 21 pool, clean and spacious rooms.
Cons: Allow guests to have food and drinks at lagoon and pools within reason- a diet soda and granola bar shouldn't constitute being harassed by staff.
Location: Porkey's BBQ- famous for deep fried key-lime pie!
This is a nice resort with plenty of activities for all ages. The hotel rooms are clean and spacious. The resort is beautiful both inside and out. The salt water lagoon is the closest thing you will get to "ocean" access on the resort without going out on a boat- meaning you cannot simply walk out into the ocean from this resort's hotel. It may be different if you stay at a villa instead of the hotel. The resort does nickle and dime you (as I had expected) and they will not allow you to bring your own drink or food to the pools or lagoon. I was "gently" reminded of this policy by staff when I brought a can of diet soda and a granola bar to the lagoon area. However, they are happy to serve you multiple kinds of drinks and meals purchased from their poolside bars/restaurants.

Beautiful place and amenities. Hotel rooms are great but the villas are in really bad shape (old and dirty).

Too noisy

Posted 08-Aug-2014
Pros: nothing
We stayed over the weekend of 4th July and it was extremely busy. This was our worst hotel of the four hotels we stayed at during our trip. Even with the amount of guests, the hotel facilities around the pool were very disappointing. Not enough space around the pool- being packed like sardines, fighting for an umbrella to sit in some shade. beer cans were left around the pool and at one point the police were called. The adult pool is for over 21's so our 18 year old daughter wasn't allowed. We never ate there as the ocean restaurant looked like a canteen. We did sit at the tikki bar and ordered food-the barman was friendly and helpful as were the staff. It has no beach but a small lagoon which the children seemed to be enjoying. We did however, enjoy the dolphin experience and the staff couldn't have been more helpful. Overall , this might be good for families with children but if you want some privacy and adult relaxation don't go here.

Paradise on an Island in the Sun

Posted 04-Aug-2014
Pros: Everything! The staff was extremely polite and accommodating.
Cons: The room lacked a microwave. We ordered more food than we could finish, unfortunately we couldn't heat it up for leftovers.
Location: The island is primarely owned by Hawk's Cay, so it seems. The island as a whole is beautiful.
This resort is amazing. We went here for our honeymoon and the whole stay was relaxing, carefree, and in general fun and luxurious. I was skeptical about the saltwater lagoon based on the pictures, but it is definitely way better than any natural beach in the area. The wait staff serve you while you relax at the lagoon and tranquility pool. The room was gorgeous.

Family friendly, clean with great views

Posted 03-Aug-2014
Pros: Everything
Cons: More menu options while dining, and we only had a band/singer perform two of the 6 nights there which was nice, would like to see that nightly.
Location: Fishing, snuba, swimming, dolphin experience, beaches, etc
We enjoyed the hotel, all of the amenities, service and experience. I would definitely return. The only thing I would like to see added are more menu options within the restaurants.

Not what I expected.

Posted 03-Aug-2014
Everything was fair. Nothing outstanding at all. Lots of kids running everywhere. Staff unfriendly and not at all knowledgeable about the area and unable to suggest restaurants or activities. Did not like the resort or the area. The pond that looks like a beach on resort pics is ridiculous.
