“Beautiful resort!”
The location is great (Duck Key). Employees and service were great. The chairs on our balcony were not in the greatest shape (cloth sagging/ripped from frame), but they replaced it promptly. Also, some chairs outside had broken frames underneath. The beds are so high up, it's hard to get in and out, and I'm pretty tall. The comforters were too warm for the weather there. Altogether, it was a great, relaxing resort with great service and friendly employees, and the amenities were wonderful. I would definitely recommend it.
“Nice, relaxing atmosphere.”
This is a family-oriented Hotel, but with an adult pool. Good Service.
“Amazing!!!”
We stayed here for our honeymoon in September and we cant wait to go back!
“Just a few things......”
It's a nice hotel, but guest services left a little to be desired. Some of the staff were very nice and some were just plain rude. We also didn't get some things that should be standard in a hotel room: hand towels, face cloths, ice bucket, glasses. At lunch one day, we waited over an hour for our food at the beach grill. The hotel is beautiful and well maintained, but there were just a few things........
“Great location for visiting the keys, but a few issues...”
Nice resort, but could use more restaurants, or at least one that serves more of a variety. Food got boring and expensive after a few days, and you are limited to your choices unless you want to go off the resort, and this which does not make sense to eat breakfast or lunch. Overall good experience, handy to visit Key West or to head up toward Key Largo. General attitude of the staff was unpleasant. No one was overly friendly or welcoming. Could be because tipping is not encouraged because of the resort fee?? Even when tipping bar and wait staff, they were not very warm or bothered to engage in any conversation. Property is pretty, lagoon and pools are nice. Large fire pit with chairs was nice in the evening. As is the case at most hotel, no one ever enforces the "no children in whirlpool" rules and there were always unattended, young children in the whirlpool at all hours! Also VERY cold in most public areas...way too much AC!!
“Lovely spot”
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Nov 2011 at Hawks Cay Resort. Our room was beautiful, spacious, and clean, with a nice balcony overlooking the adults-only pool. I loved the stone shower, and the bed was extremely comfortable. Air conditioning was a bit loud but tolerable, and the mini fridge was a plus. Front desk service was impeccable, and the valet parking and free wi-fi throughout the resort were real bonuses. There is quite a lot to do at the resort, although many activities cost extra, but this would be the same pretty much anywhere. The food in the restaurant was excellent (you must try the fish tacos at the Beach Grill!). My only "negative" is that dining options for lunch and dinner are quite limited. There are two restaurants on site, one is open for lunch (11am-6pm) and one for dinner (6-9pm). Menus at both are quite limited and quite pricey. The only other restaurant close by (at the marina) is open for dinner only. Otherwise, you will be driving to Islamorada or Marathon if you want other options. Overall though we really enjoyed our stay, and would highly recommend this resort. If you are a couple, ask for a room overlooking the adults-only pool. The main pool was quite busy all day long. (The salt-water lagoon was lovely, cool and deep enough for diving from the floating platform.)
“Beautiful location, but an average stay”
Hawks Cay is a great resort for families, who need to be less focused on the quality of the rooms and more concerned about activities. That, they have. For adults who come to the resort, the Tranquility pool is definitely the place to hang out. You can't hear the DJ, and you don't have to listen to the kayak-race commentary. The check-in process was frustrating. The room that I had specifically reserved through Expedia was not the room I received -- it took 2 phone calls and another visit to the front desk to make it right. The room itself was pretty standard: king bed, too many decorative pillows and not enough sleeping pillows, small table with chairs on the balcony (facing the parking lot). The bathroom is clearly an oversight - perfectly functional, but not comfortable. And despite being two separate rooms for the shower/toilet and the vanity, there's no privacy door. Seems like someone forgot to install it. The rest of the staff was warm and friendly. Snacks by the pool are tasty and come to you in convenient bamboo baskets. The saltwater lagoon is a great add. My favorite amenity was definitely the giant fire pit - a great place to sit after dinner and relax. Enjoy the live music too!
“Service left everything to be desired”
the hotel location and condition are very nice but this is a hotel that decided to do a "no tipping policy" and charge you a daily fee plus add 18% to you food bills at the hotel for gratuity. I thought the concept was a good one so i wouldn't need tipping money for valet and things but this was the one of the absolute worst trips my husband and i have had all over the world when it came to the service delivery. People practically ignored us. While standing and waiting for our care we had an older person come down and try to get a cart for his luggage and said he had called 41 minutes earlier and no one ever came to his room. Our food orders were wrong, the time for a waiter or waitress to even come to the table was very long and we waited 15 minutes for silverware after getting our food. We sat in a bar area at the dockside and never received service so we ended up leaving there and going to a cafe offsite which was phenomenal. I would say that the Dive shop and dive experience were the very best thing of our entire stay. They were courteous and timely and helpful adn the dives were phenomenal. So very disappointed with the rest.
“Really lovely”
We only spent 1 night here while en route to Key West but thought that rooms, public areas and poolside areas were lovely. We swam and sat at around the fire-pit till late and watched the dolphins after breakfast. Staff were extremely courteous. My only complaint was that the food and drinks were pricey but that's what you kind of expect in high quality resorts.
“Complete Keys Experience”
The experience was amazing and the hotel have something to all tastes. Mixed feelings on the service, which was extremely friendly sometimes, but others very impersonal and sometimes left us waiting longer for waiters.
