Hotel Monica is a convenient little place within walking distance of all major attractions. For the price, you shouldn't expect luxury, and the rooms are smallish and sparse - ours had a strong smell of camphor, like the furniture had come from a granny's house. This being said, check-in and check-out were speedy and efficient, the prices were amazing, and the room was scrupulously clean. Highly recommend the breakfast - you won't have the choice you'd have in a hotel, but what they do have is good, especially the croissants and fresh fruit. We happened to coincide with very noisy young guests, but there was no noise from the street, and there are cafes and restaurants all around. The rating for the staff doesn't mean they were nice, simply that we didn't interact enough to have much to say. I do recommend this as a decent budget stay, again well located and a short walk from the airport tram. Would stay again :)

This hotel was amazing - beautiful, spacious bathroom, working aircon, and the staff were so helpful. If we ever come back to Florence I would stay here again in a heartbeat!

Nice hotel but a bit noisy
Comfortable room for a single traveller with clean bathroom. Rather noisy due to being right above and next door to the Indian restaurant and its kitchen. Good situation close to main station and 10 minute walk to the Duomo. No lift and also strange check-in and check-out system at the sister hotel 50 metres away. Nice breakfast arrangement with outside terrace.

Good: Location and friendly staff. Bad: I understood breakfast was included. Got charged 7€ per person per meal in cash upon check out. Shared bathroom. Walls thin and other guest very loud until 2am when I knocked on the door to confront them. Little sleep both nights I was there. I had reservations there again in July but changed to another hotel.

A fine hotel in a great location on via Faenza. We checked in at a nearby sister hotel and stored our bags there until later. At Hotel Monica everything was just great. This price included a great breakfast on a wonderful patio that we all enjoyed. Complaints? We have none. Highly recommended and very convenient. Would love to stay again.

Great location, right near train station. Walking distance to all major attractions. Solid breakfast, meats, cheeses, yogurt, pastries; would prefer some fruit. Air conditioning struggled to keep up, but not major. Really nice couple owned it, very friendly.

We had booked a nonsmoking room in November for a May visit but when we arrived our room stank horribly of cigarette smoke as did the common areas of the hotel. We let management know but they did not offer another room. We had no recourse but to leave the facility and find another hotel room after 10:00 pm on a rainy Sunday night in an unfamiliar city where we do not speak the language. We are seeking a full refund from Hotel Monica/Expedia for this untenable situation. Warning to those considering this hotel.

The staff were very helpful and were happy to provide free devise on the city of Florence. The hotel is just 5 minutes from the main train station and 10 minutes walk from the main city centre. The room was clean and we were able to leave our bags at the hotel after check out for 24 hours. Breakfast surpassed expectations considering the low cost of the room.

The staff are very friendly, I leave my luggage there before check in. When I come back to check in, the luggage already in the room. only problem is somebody smoke in my booked none smoking room before.

Excellent budget hotel
Excellent location. A block from train station, 10 min walk to Duomo. Readily accessible attended parking (€21/day). Room was quiet. Nothing elaborate, but clean and comfortable. Private bath. Shower ran hot. Daily cleaning service.

This site should be considered a hostel not a hotel. Accommodations were sparse and very dark. Air conditioning was not adequate. The "hotel" street sign was not even working properly--"Hotel Mon". The breakfast was fine and the staff were very pleasant.

Dear Anonymous, I don't know where you come from, but in the world when a street sign with a specific word is broken we don't just go to the supermarket but it needs to be handcrafted, and it takes few days. This is why you saw only the letters "mon".

The terrace is awesome and the staff is great (Domenico and Elton) so it pains me to say this is not the best hotel in the area. Reception is one flight up and our room another flight up - no lift. Room is big and AC was on during our stay in hot July, but we were never quite cool. My bed was creaky and I could feel the springs and a bit of a droop - not often experienced in European hotels in my experience. My daughter said hers was fine. Wifi only worked in the breakfast room and was iffy there. It did not work in our room and not on the terrace. Bathroom and shower was fine. Bring your own toiletries, though there was a hairdryer. No fridge but they did give us some ice on request. Breakfast was ok, and they did set up a bit early on our departure day to accommodate us. (Thanks, Elton!) Very convenient to SMN station and had shops and restaurants close by.

Room size is good and clean with nice view of back neighborhood. Nice breakfast and close to all tourist spots, all walking distance. Easy 5 min walk to train. Quiet location and markets and restaurants alround.

Better Than Expected
I was traveling with a group of students and took a chance on the Hotel Monica with only the reviews from the website as a guide. We made reservations for 3 rooms. The hotel is basic accommodations as about as close as you can get to the train station in Florence. The staff was very kind, and very helpful. The room and bed were comfortable, the bathroom was very clean and efficient. A nice breakfast in the morning with a nice self service coffee. This is an excellent location for an overnight.

Really convenient location, 5 mins. from the main train station. Great attention by hotel personnel. Good breakfast included. Quiet street, was able to rest peacefully. AC only worked one setting, more like 73 degrees fahrenheit. If you wanted cooler, could be an issue.

This hotel is within walking distance to main tourist attractions in Florence. Hotel is quite old but room was comfortable (we are a family of 4) and clean with the big bathroom. Breakfast was provided but was pretty mediocre compared to the other hotels we stayed at during our trip through Italy. Parking was close by and you have to pay extra for it. We did not have any problems and were happy with our stay.

Hotel Close to the Florence Train Station
Hotel was easy to find. It was just a few easy blocks from the train station. Friendly staff. We have one of the quad rooms. It was spacious enough for 4 adults except for the luggage. The beddings sheets were clean but the spreads looked old. The rest room was OK but there seemed to be a damp stench all the time. The ventilation fan was just not strong enough. The air conditioner was weak and very loud. If we don't leave it on, the room felt hot and moist. The room might benefit more with a ceiling fan. Location of this hotel is great. It's very close to Stazione di SMN. It is on Via Faenza which leads into Piazza di San Lorenzo. From there, you can walk easily to the Duomo, Academia. Actually, you do not need to take any transportation at all. Florence is compact enough to walk everywhere. We walk as far as the Pitti Palace. That being said, the hotel is probably in the worst block of Via Faenza because the sidewalk shrinks to one person width and slants at an uncomfortable angle in that block which also receives a lot of traffic from a side street. It is not easy dragging your baggage in that one block. Check-in is on 2nd floor with no elevator. Breakfast was very basic but adequate. Croissants, breakfast rolls, slices of ham and cheese, oatmeal, juice, coffee.

Good location!
Good location! Bathrooms clean. Stayed as a family of 4 adults and 2 kids. We got one queen bed and 3 cots. Was hoping for at least two doubles but that's alright. It's just a hotel. Important thing is it's close to many of Florence's attractions. Make sure when you exit the hotel you turn left (you'll see the back of many other hotel signs) as if you go right there will be nothing to see eat or do.
