“Huge studio room-around the corner from the actual hotel”

When we arrived, we were told that we'd been 'upgraded' into a studio room, located in a courtyard around the corner from the hotel itself. This location was on a much quieter street and the room was huge! 2 large doubles and a single bed, and a fully-furnished kitchen. The staff were most helpful. Location-wise, the hotel is right near to Santa Maria train station, which is very handy for travelling to and from it, and also for following directions to the area. If you take a copy of the hotel address with you, it's easy to find its location (follow the numbers along the street next to the train station). The hotel entrance is set back from the street. It's easy to walk everywhere in Florence from the hotel. No need for public transport.

“Wish I could recommend it”

Hotel Alamanni is small, cozy and clean, with a decent breakfast (rolls, yogurt, cheese, cereal, cappucino) and located right near the Train Station. A good value, buuuuuut . . . The desk personnel are less than friendly. It's too bad, because my husband and I had a long stay there and the first day we encountered the gruff and arrogant desk manager. We spent our 11 days ignoring the personnel and enjoying Florence. The housekeeping women were friendly and good. The location was perfect for us, since we were there for the Florence Biennale and it was a short walk to Fortezza de Basso. It was also an easy walk to the Duomo and all the main sights. We did a Segway Tour and had fun while learning interesting details we would have never known about Florence. We used Rick Steve's guide book and it was great reading and excellent advice. Florence is very difficult to navigate, so carry a good map with you at all times. We were there in early December and needed a coat and gloves most days. Saw a movie (August Rush - in English) at the Odeon Theatre - a real treat! Fall/Winter is a great time to visit since there are no lines to get into the museums and Duomo. And you don't sweat!

“Great location and good deal for the price”

We stayed in a Jolly room, which was an apartment about a block from the main hotel. I was pleasantly surprised by the amount of space and the completeness of the kitchenette. However, the mattress needed replaced and the shower curtain holder was coming out of the wall. There was only one set of keys, which made it difficult for me to go to my meetings and my friend to go exploring. This made for some very long waits at the gate, since room buzzer at the gate didn't ring in our room.

“Not a bad place for Three stars”

Getting Air con working is a problem and hard to get them to fulfil your requests.

“Uncaring but good place for the central train station”

The room wasn't ready, and it wasn't around the corner. It was a block and a half away. We were only allowed one key for 5 people and no assistance was offered, even though we had one woman in a wheelchair. The main office for the hotel is 3 floors up and indicated only by a small sign on the street. If the taxi driver hadn't known where it was we would never have found it. The room was dim and the kitchen bare. It is convenient to the train station and fine for young, resourceful travelers. There is a good pizza restaurant between the hotel and the central station.

“Very handy studio apartments”

We did not stay at the hotel, but in one of the studio apartments. These are a great convenience, as they allow you to sample the wonderful markets in Florence and to save a lot of money doing your own cooking. The studios are in an outlying building another 100 meters or so from the hotel, but still an easy walk from the station. The studios were very quiet, as they face onto a large internal courtyard, rather than the street, very cool, as the courtyard is shaded and the air conditioning worked very well. The studios do NOT have a telephone which was very inconvenient for us. There is a dishwasher and a range hood, neither of which are actually connected to the power, so you have to do your dishwashing by hand. The selection of dishes was spotty. We had one fork and had to buy a couple more in the market. There was a tabletop espresso machine that was ineffective, so if you want to make coffee, count on buying a 'moka' pot in the store. There is a very good kitchen supply store on Piazza S.M.Novella, not far away. You can buy your coffee pot here. This is not a luxury accommodation, but is adequate, and the convenience and economy of doing a lot of your own cooking are a great advantage.

“Convenient location”

Convenient location, only a short walk from railway station. Hotel is actually on second floor of an office block, entrance is just a barred gate on streetside. Smallest elevator I've ever seen. 1 bag 1 person. Rooms small but clean, bathroom looks like it was taken from a hospital. Still a lot cheaper than other hotels in Florence.

“Terrible Service, Terrible location”

The staff at the Hotel Alamanni were completely rude. I wish that I could say that it was only one person, but all of the staff we encountered at the front desk were disrespectful and unhelpful. The area around the hotel is very dirty- unless you know the bus stops and schedules or want to pay a lot of money for a cab, it's hard to get on the nicer side of Florence. It was hard to sleep at night in the hotel room because of noise... the walls were very thin and you could hear everything that was going on. I will NOT be going back to this hotel and will not recommend this hotel. Save your money! Shell out a few extra Euro and go somewhere else.

“Buyer Beware”

We had the studio rooms, which is over 2 blocks away from the location. The studio was sparse, consisting of a pull down futon couch that doubled as your bed. That was not the worst part, the shower is located on the wall, you have to pull a shower curtain around you and that is the make shift shower. It was horrible, you could not use the bathroom after because it was soaked from the shower. Additionally, the futon bed/couch leaves your back soar!
