Just about did the trick for me, but not great value. I struggle to understand how you are expected to leave your room key when leaving the hotel in a place that is alarmed until the staff turn up at 9.30 am. Would therefore suggest this is for people on holiday only.
excellent accommodation, cannot believe it was so quiet, food good, staff helpful, room clean and tidy, as you would want. Bed really comfortable. A little hard to find in truth, but would stay here again.
"Lovely welcoming hotel to explore Colchester from."
The Hideaway Retreat offered a friendly welcome with drinks and cake on arrival. Guests have their own entrance separate from the owners and the room was very comfortable and relaxing after a day sightseeing. The owners are very friendly and provided a range of delicious breakfasts and lots of advice on local places to visit. We had a relaxing break here and I would recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area.
Very tasteful room, superbly set out with well coordinated bedding and fittings..My wife thought that the fish and chips were the most tasty she had ever had! I have to agree.. Breakfast was a delight really tasty coffee and a great selection of pastries, fruit and cooked items.. Staff really friendly and helpful at all times.A hotel that we can thoroughly recommend.in a picturesque village......
There has been an ongoing investment in this establishment since my last visit six years` ago.
This has meant a marked improvement in overall standards resulting in a comfortable stay in a spacious, modern room.
The "morning chef" was very attentive to my meal requirements and I left with a very favourable impression of "The Globe,Colchester ".
Our first visit to Colchester. We weren't sure what to expect. The hotel is a good hotel right in the down town area, close to everything. Staff were very friendly and helpful.
We were only disappointed in 2 regards. The room doesn't have airconditioning and it was hot when we were there. Windows open but then we couldn't close the curtains at night. We were on the 1st floor and had no lift or elevator, the bell hop was excellent in getting out heavy bags up to our room.
We enjoyed our short stay in Colchester.

"Great hotel accessible to everything in Colchester"
Staff was uber helpful and kind. Hotel was smack dab in the middle of everything with a taxi stand and bus stops right outside and an entire shopping center just a turn to the right. Great place! Perfect for visiting Colchester.

We booked for a last minute Easter weekend night away for myself, husband and two children (aged 14 and 11). It was excellent value for a family room, which was really spacious with a view of the golf course. The room had 2 double beds and plenty of room for us all - only downside was that they prepped it for 2 guests rather than 4, but as we were only there for a night it didn't really matter. It was extremely clean and well kept, if a little dated decor wise. The TV also had limited channels, but again for one night it was fine.
Our stay included full use of the spa facilities and we spent a lovely afternoon in the pool, steam, sauna and jacuzzi. Children are allowed in the facilities between 5 - 7pm and again in the morning (9am - 10am I think). There are lovely loungers around the pool and all the spa facilities are close at hand. I also had a treatment and the prices are very competitive.
We didn't eat in the hotel, but went out to a nearby pub in Nayland, which was excellent.
Overall the hotel is in a lovely area and has great facilities for a family night away. They are currently being refurbished and the reception area was looking really nice. I presume some of the more tired corridor areas will eventually get done.
