"Idyllic setting for a first visit to the Caribbean"
Having never been to the Caribbean before or in fact an all inclusive resort we were a bit concerned about being 'trapped' in one location. On the other hand we wanted a week to do nothing in nice surroundings.
The accommodation was amazing, being right on the white sandy beach and within 20 feet of the sea. The room (we stayed in a premium deluxe suite) was spacious and spotlessly clean.
The manger Cedric was always around and very friendly. The staff were all very friendly and basically what could make or break such a resort. They are an asset to the hotel.
You could do as much or as little as you wanted. We choose the latter and spend most of the time just relaxing around the pool or on the beach. We did use the tennis court a couple of times when the weather clouded over and had a massage in the spa which was very good.
There are day trips and boat trips available.
We only visited the capital St John's for a morning. There isn't much to see or do in the capital and it does get very hot being inland. 1.5 to 2 hours would be plenty of time.
Overall a fabulous experience and would definitely return.
Our fourth time at Hawksbill. Still in love with it and although just got back last evening, can not wait to return. It has four wonderful beaches. our favorite is Eden Beach. It is a very natural setting which is basically empty. 3/4 of a mile long it sits in a peninsula. We spent the most of our two weeks sunning in its privacy. We saw at most 10 folks walk by during the entire time.
The hotel is very simple and rustic, it is not for everyone. The food is good. I managed to gain 10 pounds despite exercising every day. The rooms are simple with no TV or Internet. there is WIFI in the lobby only. It is perfect place to get away. No TV no news for two weeks. Staff will become your friends. William, Millie, David and ? Andrewthe bartenders get to know you and prepare your favorite drinks as they see you walking up to one of the bars.
The guests are mostly European which allows for eclectic, engaging conversation.
If you are looking for a place to totally relax and don't mind rustic yet clean facility this is the place to go. The saying is that you never go to Hawsbill just once. We met folks who have been there 7-28 times and we heard of a couple in their 90's who have been there more than 40 times.
We just returned from a stay at Coconut Beach Club. It was amazing. The staff were so friendly. Clifton, Tanza, Raynold, Samantha, everyone we came in contact with was so helpful and always smiling. The beach was beautiful. We LOVED that it was such an intimate setting. If you are looking for a glitzy or large resort, this is not it. However, if you want a relaxing, casual and laid back resort, this it the place to go. Would go back in a heartbeat!
"A beautiful location overlooking a nature reserve"
We wanted to avoid all inclusive hotel accommodation and the superior cottage at Yepton Estate was an excellent choice. We stayed for two weeks and were impressed with the assistance given by the owners Gabriela and Douglas. On arrival they offered us cool drinks and a bottle of wine and accompanied us on an informative shopping trip. They were helpful and enthusiastic hosts and Douglas gave us a detailed briefing on the sites and beaches that we could visit when our rental car was delivered. We took advantage of using the car hire company recommended and arranged for us by Gabriela. We also visited places to eat which they favoured.
The free use of a mobile phone with contact numbers, if we had any problems, was a helpful gesture.
Douglas has a special interest in the railways used in the former sugar cane industry and it was a privilege to view the restoration activity which he has been promoting. It will be interesting to read his planned book on this aspect of Antiguan history. On the history of the Island it was also good to see Nelsons Dockyard at English Harbour and the forts and defences established around the Island as part of the British defence of the Caribbean. We had an enjoyable experience and will retain happy memories of a very comfortable stay at Yepton Estate and a bonus of enjoying a wide range of bird life in the lagoon.
