“Amazing! Loved Smugglers Cove for Backpacker or Hotel”

This has great backpacker facilities but also amazing private rooms if you want more of a hotel. Wonderful location on the beach though not the best beach ever. But what made this outstanding was the staff. If you go there soon and get the chance to meet V, Philip, Gracie and Ase then give them much love from me. Without fail the staff and the amazing food were a winning combo.

Area recommendations
It's a close and cheap bus ride to Nadi town where you can fulfil your retail, email and coffee needs if you need a break from the beach.
Getting there
Free shuttle from the airport
Getting around
Local bus is $1.15 and taxi is $8 so all good there.
What to pack
Pack light as there is lots of stuff to buy but maybe waterproofs for the torrential downpours and lots of bug spray!
Events and shows
Take part in the Kava ceremony and watch the Fire dances - both such fun!

“not at all like a hotel !”

I did exspect a lot more, because i thought that it also gonna be like a hotel and not just a hostel. But the staff didn't even care about us, they forgot orders or didn't take them, they couldn't help with problems and were just unfriendly all the time! I loved the time in Fiji, but i would never go back to this place or recommend it to anybody else. It's probably nice for one night or even two, but there are a lot of better place just next doors. The prices in the restaurant were also incredibly expensive compared to the Restaurants and Bars next door. So if you wanna go there just make sure to just stay a few nights there or go directly to another place ;)

Area recommendations
The main island isn't that nice, it's not what you expect fiji to be like.. But the islands are amazingly beautiful. But Mango Bay for example is really nice as well on the main island and so easy to reach, you can always just take the local bus! The other Bars near Smugglers Cove are really great, nice staff and lovely and cheap food ;)
Getting around
you can alaways take the local bus - it goes nearly everywhere and all the time. But it gonna take a while, but it's a good experience and very cheap!

“Lay over near Nadi”

I chose Smugglers Cove for its convenience - shuttle from the airport 15 mins - and its cheapness. My wife's heart sank when we arrived and she could have cried when the lack of apparent privacy of a dorm struck her. but it was perfectly fine and there were no problems. She was impressed that the staff were constantly keeping the whole place clean all the time. The staff were always helpful - we had a 10pm flight out of Fiji but had lock up luggage facilities and availability to the showers even though we had to be out of the dorm at 10am and stayed the rest of the day there. We in fact stayed twice, once on the way from LAX to Australia and on the way back. a google search shows it not near the beach it is in fact right on the beach. Slight warning about the sea there can be tiny lice creatures that bite in the sea. but the chlorine in the pool all though not noticable kills these creatures.

“The hotel is ok if one only stays for a holiday.”

The reception services were good. The Continental breakfast was boring as everyday was the same. The room I booked was not suitable and had to downgrade to another room. The room was next the the canteen exhaust and was very noisy. We were bitten by "bed Bugs" the first two nights before being moved to another room. Overall I could only rate the hotel at the low end of the satisfaction as I have not had experience with other hotels in the locale with similar rates. Compare the rates and quality with an Australian hotel / motel, this one has a lot of work to do. May be it only suits some younger persons who only like the beach, yet the beach was not clean. Transport was ok as there were always taxi waiting outside, however the fixed rate of travel to locale short distance away compared to the "meter" rate offered in Suva is not compatible.

Area recommendations
The Sun is hot, the beaches are good if you get out to the islands. Atmosphere and the friendliness of the locals both Fijians and Indians made you feel welcome.

“Will return again next year, great spot and accommodation”

We had 4 nights in Savusavu on the next largest island and then back to Nadi to Smugglers for 4 nights. Rohit is the manager and he was extremely pleased to see us back again and made sure that we were looked after. They were there to meet us when we got off the plane and took us by their small bus to the hotel. It is a popular place for young ones (backpackers) and they are all well behaved. Our accommodation was upstairs and had private facilities, air con, TV, balcony, fridge etc. It is right on the water and there are activities to do each day which is run by the hotel staff. There are many island tours and day trips to do which can be organised at the excursion desk. We enjoyed dining at the various restaurants located within each surrounding resort, the food at Smugglers is of very high quality and comes with a great choice. You can get the local bus for about $!.20 (fiji) into the township if you want to shop, there is a small shop within the resort and a small supermarket within walking distance from the hotel. All in all a lovely relaxing place to stay with a light breakfast included in the tariff. We really feel at home there, hence our intention to return again next year. With the Australian dollar so strong, this is a very affordable holiday and only 4 hours away by plane.

Area recommendations
I like Nadi as Suva is on the other side of the island and not as handy to the islands and coral coast.
When to go
Avoid the wet season which is from about end Nov to March.

“Interesting Spot”

Booked at this location for convience, close to Nadi and Lotoka wanted something central. It was a nice spot right on the beach which we were after. The beach is not a beach for swimming there are better places in Fiji for that,Smugglers was a friendly with helpful staff ,but it is not a place to lie around the pool and relax ,book a resort for that type of holiday. All in all Smugglers was good ,position ok ,but if l were to go back ,l would stay in a resort around the coral coast.(Nadi and Lotoka are not that interesting after a couple of hours)

Area recommendations
Do resorts at the Coral Coast looked a lot nicer
When to go
late August the weather was great

“Good for one night stopover, no longer”

Close to airport. Complimentary shuttle van was indeed waiting for me upon arrival and I got in about 12:15 a.m. Close to airport. Good for a one night stopover but no longer than that. Nothing really around it and the beach is nowhere near as nice as any of the beaches on the surrounding islands. Stay for one night if you must refresh, then move to an outer island. Check in was easy. Room was small and not very clean. Staff tried hard, but their standards are lower than what I'm used to I guess. Lots of young people and solo travelers. Good friendly guests to hang with.
