“"Gorgeous Hotel - Awkward Location"”

The hotel was richly decorated with moroccan artifacts. One got absorbed in the elaborate and beautiful design of islamic architecture. Excellent staffs and service. Very good food. Safety was a real concern walking through the dark alleys leading to the hotel, especially at night. Beware of faux guides and hustlers hiding in the corners. Once you got through the unpleasant passages into the hotel, it was a different world.

“5 star +++ service !!!”

When we checked-in, they kindly upgrade us to Royal Suite which was very nice. Hotel staff were extremely kind and helpful and we can't say thank you enough to them. I was sick last day of my holiday but they came to bring some herb tea, checked if I was ok. I would recommend eating in sometimes. We had the best Harira so far in Morocco. Also the breakfast is traditional and will last you the whole day. We left with very memorable experience. Well done, Amina, Bouchra, Hocine, Fatima.....

“An interesting cultural and historical atmosphere to experience.”

This was my first experience with a reservation made through Expedia. The lack of an on-line reception desk, and the resultant delay to confirm my reservation, left me feeling a bit uneasy. (Would I and my wife have to confront the maze of streets and multitude of "guides" in the Medina again?) The room we had was very spacious, but the bathroom was only accessible through a narrow stairwell going up to another level. The bathroom was also very spacious. The hand rail in the stair well was not firmly fixed to the wall. As such, it was a worry for two senior citizens. There are no elevators in the hotel. To get to your room, one must climb stairs reminescent of those in Europe´s castle towers. The food served by the hotel is very well prepared and the dining area is comfortable. The staff was very pleasant and helpful.

Area recommendations
Be careful about the word Medina. There is the old Medina, which has only three gates through the old city walls, which only pedestrians can enter, and there is the new Medina. Except for the Sofitel, most of the Riads inside the walls of the old Medina may not be the best accomodations for those over age 70 or those traveling with lots of bags. They should get a regular hotel outside the old Medina. As there are over 9,000 little passage ways in the old Medina, one most have a (hotel) recommended guide. The various sections of the Medina are most interesting. If you do not have a knowledgeable and trustworthy guide you will miss a lot. Having a guide also relieves one of the "assault" of very eager free-lancers of all ages.

“Felt we were in a true Moroccon home, welcoming friendly and 'nothing is too much trouble' attitude”

We were delighted with our friendly welcome in 'the middle of the night' at Riad Arabesque and the charm and character of the whole Riad. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly. The service was impecable and nothing was too much trouble.Everyone made our stay in Fez delightful and rewarding. I owuld not hesitate in recommending Riad Arabesque to any visitor to Fez.

When to go
Getting there
What to pack

Dommage !
