What a wonderful experience. The setting is magnificent. There is beautiful furniture and art everywhere. The service was excellent, the rooms very modern and clean and the dining was first class. I had mentioned on my dinner reservation that it was my husband’s birthday and the waitress brought us a complimentary glass of bubbly and wished him happy birthday - very nice touch! Would highly recommend.

The property is beautiful and well maintained. Helpful and attentive staff. I have stayed at several of the historical castle properties and they are all unique and consistently good value for the price.

Stayed two nights and we were royally treated to a huge suite with a living room. The staff went out of their way to book restaurants and tours for us. We were made to feel very welcome. Parking was close, and free, outside the front door. The castle is filled with incredible furniture and antique paintings even in our bedroom. It has been well refurbished into a unique hotel with the feeling that you’ve stepped back into the 17th century. We walked up the stairs to the top of the tower, and had amazing views of all of Estremoz. The breakfast was the best we had throughout Portugal with an amazing variety and endless food. We also had dinner there which was superb. Great value all around. Do not not miss this rare experience!

An absolutely beautiful and authentic place. The best Pousada in Portugal, I believe. Great breakfast and bar area, but sad that the restaurant is closed during dining hours. Also, hard to climb the hill on foot from Estremoz if you didn't come by car. Only problems with the room itself were the hard bed and one of the shower attachments didn't work well. But the incredible historical beauty of the place tends to overshadow the problems.

Gorgeous property ! Gorgeous restoration. This is a beautiful pousada. Rooms are comfortable - except most of their rooms have 2 beds, not one big bed. But the beds are comfortable and the sheets are great.

Excellent stay
Great fun to stay at this historical hotel. Excellent location. Parking just outside and walkable to old town. Breakfast was included and was very good. We also had 2 dinners which we enjoyed with a very good sommelier. Room and bath very good. Staff great. A great overall experience.

Unbelievable views from the rooms, first class service from the staff, beautiful hotel. The food was great. One of the employees even ran home to get jumper cables when my rental car battery was dead!

Great tower, but management be more hospitable
This is a lovely property in the center of the old walled part of the city. The highlight of the hotel is surely the tower from which you can view the sorrounding countryside. However, we were not impressed with how we were treated upon checkin. Although we had made a reservation for a room with a single bed more than a month in advance, my wife and I were told by the front desk that two large groups had recently checked in and that there were no such rooms available. Instead, we were given a room with two small (children’s) beds and made the stay a lot less romantic. Later, we discovered that one of the large groups had not yet checked in so we felt mislead and that management prioritized the larger group over us. This surely reflects the poor hotel management and a general lack of hospitality. Our only other complaint was that the bartender could not mix standard cocktails and seemed more adept to just pour beer and wine. The walled part of the city is interesting, but the rest is rather quiet.

This was a tremendous place to stay in historic Estremoz! We loved the Pousada, the location and staff. We enjoyed ourselves in the local area and have wonderful memories of Estremoz.

Only Place to Stay in Estremoz
This pousada in the castle above the city is the only place to stay to see the area. Hotel is in great shape with amazing views. Be sure to climb the tower for a 360 panorama of the area. Also if you ask at the church you can get entry into the chapel that was part of the castle. It is worth the effort. Hotel restaurant is good and there are many more available within a 10 minute walk.

Historically interesting but not more
Of course, a very beautiful hotel in a historical building. However, a hotel can not survive on the building only it has to give excellent service to. The reception is perfect! The restaurant can be approved by some more international dishes as sole muniere and veal escalope. And sorry to say, he service can be approved to. Since the alternatives for eating are none in the area this reduces the points for the hotel.

Birthday splurge
Lovely hotel in a former castle, of course it's at the top of the town. Small town with several restaurants. Wine tasting and other castle towns nearby. Stayed here as a birthday splurge.

Charming quality hotel in the castle
Estremoz is a beautiful little town/village which can be walked around in 1-2 hours. The Pousada hotel is on the hill in the castle providing a beautiful view of the surrounding area/village from there. The walk up to the castle and the hotel is a beautiful one as well. The hotel itself is very well maintained, has a pool in the back courtyard. Breakfast is included but it is average. The best part was just roaming around the castle and enjoying the charm.

Stay in a castle
Great location. It is very cool to stay in an old castle. Being an old castle, you do have to be ready for not having every modern convenience. But the service, setting and atmosphere make up for that.

Super stay!
Extremely nice welcome and explanation about the hotel facilities- the best we have had during our stay in Portugal. Very impressive building and impressive interior - lots of antique furniture and objects d’art. Charming staff. Our room was comfortable and a reasonable size with a settee, two arm chairs and coffee table in addition to the normal bed & television. Our bathroom was rather cramped and would have been better larger (a dedicated shower rather than a shower over the bath might have been better!) the carpets in places could have been less marked. But these small things aside, a super hotel!

Sleep in a palace but eat at a your aged aunts
Great place to experience palace living. But the town is only so so. And the dinner we had was way too salty and also mediocre. Great breakfast though. So roam the halls and go out to eat.

Impressive castle
Loved the experience in staying in this Possada. The staff was welcoming. The room was clean and comfortable. Great amenities with pool. Breakfast, excellent. However, dissapointed that their award winning dish which they promoted was available in very limited quantities (ran out 15 minutes after opening). Not cheap place to dine and also have to choose something we had not planned on. This should not happen.

What a find! Beautiful old palace. Glorious bar/ lounge and stunning dining room. Food was excellent. All of the staff were friendly and helpful. Very relaxing pool area. Estremoz is a great place to be based to explore this fascinating countryside and history. Regional foods and wines were a relevation - this is an area that has maintained its traditional gastronomy, utilising the finest of locally sourced ingredients. Won't be disappointed staying here!
There are lots of good things about this pousada. It starts when one enters the door and is greeted by friendly and outgoing reception staff who genuinely desire to make you feel at home and attend to your needs. It's situated on the top of a hill with great views and ample parking. Wifi was available in common areas and worked fine. The pool needed a daily cleaning that did not prevent us from swimming in it. They assisted us sort out some conflicts in tour schedules we had that commanded a lot of assistance which they provided with grace. The only issue is they have too few staff. It's as if 3 people had to do everything (reception, luggage, bar service, pool service, etc) meaning that one often had to go to the reception desk to get drinks (if at the pool or bar) or towels. Sometimes the reception desk was vacant because they were busy doing other duties. This is the only reason we rated it a four instead of a 5.

Delightful getaway!
This lovely getaway was beyond our expectations. The staff went above and beyond to make our experience delightful! I would definitely come back and stay longer!
