In need of redecoration

Posted 30-Aug-2014
Pros: Staff were friendly, a lovely setting
Cons: The decor needs modernising
Location: Imperial war museum at Duxford nearby
On arrival a lovely looking hotel. Our room the decor was dated and wallpaper starting to peel. The grouting by the shower was black in places and the shower must have been fitted to suit a person of 5' tall where the shower head cannot be adjusted. Expensive in the bar

Pretty poor. Wouldn't come here again. Very hot in the room. No ventilation at all. Terrible service. If coming from London save your money and get a taxi back to london. Quite rude staff too. Really bad beds too. It is super small. Was expecting more from a four star hotel. Really dated room too. Couldn't sleep at all. Pretty poor. Wouldn't come here again. Very hot in the room. Room booking

Posted 14-Jul-2014
Pros: staff were excellent
Cons: Not really - as I appreciate that using a third party booking doesn't result in an expensive room at a discount price.
Location: if travelling by train - the taxis are expensive - although they quote £10 - it's not the case - I paid £20.00 each way to Sawbrigeworth station
first night's room was small, a little unclean and mold in places in bathroom. Appears that the cheap room booking doesn't give you the luxury when booking through a web-site via a third party. The second night's room (501) was excellent.

Relaxing airport stay

Posted 07-Jul-2014
Down Hall revisited after 13 years,(had our wedding there!) nice to see it is still as lovely, and that it is being renovated and maintained. Car park needs a little tlc though. Wine glasses in the room would have been nice. Friendly staff, beautiful building and grounds, so peaceful. Fanciest airport stay we've ever had! Would go back just for the sake of it if found a deal with the right price.

A lovely refurbished room.

Posted 24-Jun-2014
Pros: Newly refurbished room and grounds
Cons: Breakfast
Location: Hatfield forest is lovely. - National trust
We stayed in a refurbished room which was spacious, had a very comfortable super king bed and two arm chairs lovely with lovely view of the grounds. Very quiet ( we were midweek.) breakfast was a little disappointing - fruit plate was empty, fresh fruit salad - only enough for one of us- there only appeared to be one female member of staff who was running round trying to sort everything. Overall a good experience

Refurbished room

Posted 16-May-2014
I was a bit worried about my stay in the main house following reviews that the rooms were shabby however my room had recently been refurbished and was lovely. It looks as though the whole hotel has undergone a complete overhaul. The room was large, clean and well furnished. The food was good although breakfast was a little expensive so a bed and breakfast deal may be best

a little tired

Posted 11-May-2014
Pros: location
Cons: a lot
stayed in old part of hotel - a little tired - very noisy at night - very basic furniture (stains on carpet). Breakfast was service station standard. Dinner was not bad. Bar drinks overpriced. Requested wake up call didn't happen, which troubling......such a simple thing to get right.
