"Perfect blend of elegant and funky (not too funky)"
Lovely place. There's no reason not to stay here. The rooms have astounding views of a Patagonian lake. You could sit and watch the light change all day long (which, in December, is long, indeed, about 18 hours). And you're not missing anything by not being in the town itself (which is only five minutes away). The place has a lodge-y feel and is gracious, comfortable and lovely in every way. (No AC, though. But we didn't need it.) Augustina, the owner, is lovely and filled-to-the-brim with useful information. And it's near the silly but hilarious/not-to-be-missed "ice bar" at the Glacierium, horseback riding and, of course, the simply breathtaking glacier.

"45 mins walk to town. Minibus only runs after 5pm."
Out of town hotel on a smart location looking over the lake. On the road to the glaciers. Interesting lakeside walk to town next to the lagoon with flamingoes, black-necked swans and ducks close by. Good breakfast and reasonably priced set meals. Decking area overlooks the lake and has a good and reasonably priced bar service.

Everything about the hotel was great. We were travelling with our 14 yr old son.
The staff were always helpful and friendly making you feel at home. We mostly only spoke English but that was never a problem.
We were initially staying only 2 nights and then off to another destination. As it turned, out we contacted the hotel and asked if they had room for us again 6 days later, just before Christmas. When we returned, they gave us the same room and invited us to attend a small get together they had for the staff at midnight.
The staff were always helpful in suggesting restaurants, things to see and do, and getting transportation for us.
The rooms were large, comfortable and very clean. The beds were comfortable.
The breakfast which was included, tasted great and was healthy. Even though it was not on the buffet table, you could ask for eggs. The fruit cocktail was amazing. The "lunches to go" were also good.
Also, after looking in many shops at items to purchase and the quality and price, it turned out the gift shop in the hotel had the best quality and prices than the shops in the town.
Have stayed in many hotels in different countries and think this is one of the best. Truly recommend a stay here.

We were so pleasantly surprised as to how comfortable this hotel was in this remote area of the globe. Good restaurant, nice spa and a VERY WARM pool.
All staying in Calafate area need to keep in mind that all excursions start between 0700-0900 so there is always traffic in the hotels, regardless of where you stay. With all the outdoors things to do, hopefully, you are one of those getting up early to make it to you excursion.
The hotel is just on the outskirts of town but they have a very convenient shuttle that takes you back & forth. I did not feel inconvenienced by this and we had views of Lago Argentina to boost! The only drawback was that their was a heater but nothing to regulate the temperature to a cooler setting, hence, the 4 rating for comfort. We did go in summer and had to leave the window open to get some ventilation.
Comments about barking dogs that I came across in other reviews are exaggerated. Yes, there are wild dogs and they do get loud at times but it was not incessant and frequent. I've been to Hawaii and the wild chickens and rooster crowing every morning was more frustrating than this. Despite being wild, these dogs were not threatening at all wherever we walked. This experience comes with the territory.

Lovely boutique appartments overlooking Lake Argentina. The staff will make sure your stay is special and you make the most of your stay in this incredibly beautifull part of the world. We loved El Calafate and we loved this hotel. Definitely one of the highlights of our trip and one we'll never forget.

Hosteria Puerto San Julian is a brilliant choice when staying in Calafate.
The staff is extremely nice and helpful, the rooms always clean and tidy and it is only 5 minutes from the center.
It was a great stay specially because it is really welcoming, the staff is more than happy to help us out in what we needed & the hostel itself is really confortable. If I'm ever again in Calafate, I will for sure return to this hosteria.

The room assigned us did not have a lake view, so we asked to be changed. Leo, the receptionist, immediately upgraded us at no additional charge to a corner suite, with a separate living room, that had a spectacular view! The staff were all extremely helpful. The only drawback was the distance to town, 6 km away, but it is a delightful walk along the banks of the lake to town. Plus the hotel has a shuttle every hour from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Located next to lago Argentina this is the perfect place to stay. A small hotel with very nice decorated rooms. Wjo doesn't want to have breakfast with o view on the flamingoes. But most of all, the service is one of the best I've ever experienced and trust me, I travel a lot. The personel is not only outstanding in their service but also interested and very friendly.
I had a perfect stay and would defenitely go back if the possibility is there.
Thank you very much!
