There are a few things I need when I stay in a hotel: Internet access and parking. Both I got at the Mercure Arena for free, i.e. it was included in the price. The internet is reliable and I did not have any problems sending and receiving e-mails. It was fast enough so I could use Skype. They have a parking area in the back of the hotel and a garage. This time I got a room facing the busy street. The windows isolate the noise effectively and at night the traffic dies down quite a bit. My room was comfortable. It has a desk across the length of the room under the window where you can work. There is also a power outlet for the computer. I wish there would be a second outlet for a phone charger. The bathroom is well appointed but does not have a heater. There is an infrared lamp on a timer but it is insufficient. The floor was extremely cold. There was a suitcase stand, which I like because I don't have to unpack the entire suitcase for the few days I stay at a hotel. The hotel offers a breakfast buffet, they have a bar and a restaurant. The receptionists do double duty as bar tenders. During quite times, it takes an effort to raise the attention of a receptionist because there is no bell or buzzer to let them know you are there.
The hotel is located a short walk from all the best areas of town. A short walk takes you to the hub with all the restaurants and bars. A walk in the other direction takes you towards the parks and sights. And if you don't like walking and even shorter walk takes you to the Metro station.
The room and bathroom were very clean and modern. Plenty of space and very fresh without feeling cold.
The only downside was breakfast was not as good as that on offer a short walk into town but it was good enough. On my next visit, if I have time, I will wander into town for breakfast.
Lovely staff but they are a little chilled out, maybe that is what gives the hotel its relaxing atmosphere?
We arrived late on Wednesday evening having contacted the place by phone during their stated times. We were given the code to obtain entry to the building and there is a wall mounted checking-in machine. Need Surname and creditcard details punched in and card keys are dispensed.
There was no room service until Monday when a manager burst into our room. Then they did nothing about changing towels or bedding. There is no WIFI, the Internet is via cable [if you have a socket to receive it!!] and all instructions are in German. Eventually found out that you have to input a mobile phone number to receive an 8 digit code. However, this has a limited life as the system would need to be re-coded at short intervals. Lucki;ly I had a Netbook that had a cable socket but was unable to use my Tablet.
