A great budget-friendly stopover en-route to Spain, the hotel was easy to find with a helpful & friendly receptionist. The room and en-suite bathroom were spacious and spotless and the continental breakfast was very good - plentiful with a good choice of items and at 6,50 euros a great price. There were several "eateries" nearby for evening meals and we chose the "auberge" for a traditional menu with local specialities and it was only a five-minute walk away. Carrefour petrol station was situated just off the exit from the motorway so it was great for filling up at non-motorway prices!
The rooms at this updated Campanile are much improved from the old style. We stayed overnight on route to Spain and the hotel was perfect for this, close to the motorway and easy to find. The receptionist was great and really helpful. Restaurant surroundings were very pleasant and food was satisfactory. Only downside was the service we were left with the menus and then ignored by our waiter for at least 20 minures or more. The restaurant was quite full but taking a drinks order would have helped whilst we were waiting. Once we eventually managed to get the attention of one of the waitresses it was fine. Overall would say good hotel for one or 2 nights but maybe not for a longer stay
This hotel is centered around its restaurant - expensive but very good - and its pool. We were there in late autumn, so no pool. The hotel was empty, but the staff were still very attentive, very courteous. Most had very good level of English, and were helpful on directions, recommendations, etc. The only concern I might have in staying here is hotel is in A and B part. B is off the road, quiet, but overlooks the pool. Noisy if you want to sleep in during summer. A part is on a major road. Didn't stay there, but I can imagine the noise level is high.
Overall, good hotel for the money.

"Overall, okay; good facilities for the money backed by the consistency of Mecure chain"
Booked here on our way back from the south of France and just needed a place, with a pool, to stay overnight with our young family. Hotel, much like this small town, is all a bit 'faded glamour'. The Mecure looks to have taken over this hotel, so it's half Mecure branded, and half 1980s decor in the public areas. Rooms are very comfortable and spacious. No minibar or room service though, except breakfast. All pre-booking requests were honoured (interconnecting rooms, travel cot), which was good. Lots to do at the hotel; nice gardens and outdoor pool. Also a sauna and indoor splash pool. We ate at the restaurant, but other options in St Nectaire were easily available. Next time we'd give the hotel restaurant a miss. Off-hand service and cooking, along with the flies, didn't make for a great atmosphere. Overall, fine for a place to stay; good facilities for the money backed by the consistency of the Accor/Mecure chain. Also well placed in the centre of the main street to make use of other eating options.
Right off the autoroute, this unprepossessing hotel is a gem inside. Modern rooms (some with views of the Puy de Dome), a very generous breakfast and a limited but elegant dinner menu are just some of the plusses. Our family has stayed three times over the years and the Gergovie has become one of my favourite mid-price French hotels. It's a good sign when all the other cars in the car park are French - we've always been the only English speakers. The hotel is close to a Roman/Gaulish battlefield - well worth visiting - and just down the autoroute from one of the best (chain) family restaurants in France - La Boucherie. A 35 minute drive takes you to either the Puy de Dome or Vulcania. The Auvergne is, to my mind, the most beautiful region of France, and the Gergovie is a good base from which to explore it.
