Gorgeous hotel but......

Posted 12-Dec-2014
Gorgeous hotel but we were left feeling disappointed as we had no hot water throughout most of our stay. The bottle opener was broken, therefore could not open drinks from the mini bar, this was not replaced as promised. we ordered room service for breakfast but half of our order was missing, but maybe worst of all a male member of staff walked into our room only knocking when he had actually entered, and my friend was in the middle of getting dressed, he apologised but continued to stand there for a few moments before actually leaving! Also we were unable to check out properly as there was a que of at least 25 people all complaining, we waited for over half an hour eventually having to leave our key with the concierge as we were going to miss our train. A shame as the hotel is beautiful, but our luxurious treat we felt was a bit spoiled not what we expected from a hotel of such calibre.

Lovely old hotel

Posted 12-Dec-2014
A beautiful old hotel, lovely comfortable room but unfortunately there was no hot water due to a problem with the boiler. The hotel staff on reception were, however apologetic and helpful about the issue.

Lovely hotel, shame about the hot water

Posted 08-Dec-2014
Pros: The hotel is very opulent and the staff we came across were very professional. The curtains were fab!
Cons: The hot water system!
This hotel is in a fantastic location. Just 15 minutes walk from waverly train station. On first impressions the hotel is very grand with beautiful decorative touches. The concierges were all very friendly and helpful. However, our bags were not labelled at all when they were stored and we were asked to tell them which were ours when we went to collect, which I thought was careless. We stayed in a superior twin which was very nice, the room had really high ceilings and the curtains were absolutely fantastic at keeping the daylight out (we slept until past 9:30). The beds were well used and we're starting to sag in the middle but were perfectly comfortable, I had no problems sleeping the whole night. There was a major problem with the hot water while we were there, there had been a fault and a lot of rooms were without hot water on both Saturday and Sunday - we were in one of the affected rooms. While this is something that the hotel was trying to rectify and not something that they had a lot of control over it really did marr our stay. It's a basic need when you book accommodation. We were told that the spa had hot water and that we were welcome to use the showers there however, we I agined that quite a lot of people would be using those rooms and couldn't really be bothered to traipse down a few floors to use, what was ultimately, a shared bathroom. Not what you expect at a Waldorf.

Excellent hotel!

Posted 07-Dec-2014
Pros: Location, efficient staff, cleanliness, lovely decor, good choice at breakfast. I think it says it all!
Cons: Nothing.
Location: Great location for places of interest. Castle, Royal Mile, Holyrood House and Arthur's seat. Zoo, a short bus ride away.
Great location. Lovely hotel. The staff throughout the hotel were very smart and helpful. Room was very nice- clean and tastefully decorated! Breakfast very good- a lot of choice! Overall,an excellent hotel and would recommend it to anyone staying in Edinburgh. First class hotel.

excellent location for central edinburgh.

Posted 27-Nov-2014
Pros: Comfortable room with great facilities.
Cons: More staff at breakfast to ensure less waiting.
Location: Excellent location for shopping, the castle and central Edinburgh.
Great views of the castle from our room. Reception staff very helpful and Ross, our waiter in the brasserie for dinner, was really attentive. Lovely food. Only downside was the breakfast service. Everyone arrived at the same time and had to queue up. Some of the waiting staff were doing their best to clear away and reset tables, however a few young waiters appeared to be doing nothing and left dirty dishes on tables, thus causing extra waiting time for customers.

Caledonian Hotel Edinburgh

Posted 16-Nov-2014
Pros: Wonderful ambience, friendly staff, clean throughout.
Cons: We felt that the doorman should have been present throughout the day to greet guests and help with the arrival and departure.
A thoroughly present experience and one which we would like to repeat again.

Disapointing!

Posted 10-Nov-2014
Pros: Some of the staff.
Cons: plumbing, room facilities
I was very disappointed with my stay in general. I changed rooms on the first night. The plumbing was not up to par, the plug on the bath in both rooms was broken. The front desk took ages to answer calls and the spa was mediocre. I dined at the Pomapadour Restaurant but not while I was staying at the hotel. The food was good and the staff were charming. Hotel staff were nice too but it was not what one would expect from a five star of that category and those prices. All in all it made the two days I had decided to stay in Edinburgh un unenjoyable experience that I would certainly not repeat!
