Far enough away from the hustle and bustle of the Royal Mile and Princes St but close enough to stroll to these places. Several cute shops around. We stayed in one of the basement flats and it was super quiet

The room was in the basement with people walking by our window. The dining was exquisite. The parking extremely expensive and difficult to obtain.

The area and accommodations were very nice. I was traveling by myself and felt very safe and comfortable during my stay. Hotel is in a great walking area as well for both food and shopping!

The hotel sits on a street with lots of nice buildings. Friendly staff. Walkable to the train station and many restaurants. Love the buffet breakfast at the hotel. Great view from the window of the dinning room. Will stay again if come back to Edinburg.

I stayed at the Royal Scots Club eight years ago, and enjoyed it enough I wanted to return for at least one night my second trip to Scotland. Imagine my surprise to find that the hotel had been renovated, and that everything I enjoyed the first time was not only still there, but better. A lovely tub, a comfortable and nicely furnished room, and the atmosphere of a travel experience unique to the wonderful city and country in which I found myself. Perfection.

This is a unique, cozy option should you find yourself in Edinburgh. It’s walkable to shops and food and in a safe clean area. *you have the option to add breakfast and I would recommend. There isn’t a lot of early food options.

Very bummed about our stay at the hotel - we had booked a queen room in advance, and nowhere on the reservation did it mention we would be put in their “Annex” building l, which is just a polite way of saying basement rooms. We didn’t even get to stay in the proper hotel itself, but were instead in a room down the road, situated level with the street which was incredibly noisy and had intermittent wifi signal. And on our second night we had virtually no hot water. The hotel itself did not seem crowded at all on the multiple occasions we went inside the actual building, so it was extremely disappointing to have been shuffled to the outbuilding. And again - this wouldn’t have been an issue if there was transparency while booking - we would have simply opted for another property.

Dirty rooms!
Dirty bathroom and dirty walls beside the bed (cobwebs and ‘dirt’) left us very disappointed with the hotel. Looked like it had not been cleaned in months, judging by the cobwebs that had dust on them!! Surely cleanliness is a basic standard for any hotel, particularly at nearly £200 a night?

The location was quiet and also convenient for walking to the train station, bus station, or catching the tram. There were several restaurants within walking distance as well. The staff was very helpful if needed. The included breakfast was nice. I also loved the photos and the history to explore in the common areas. Judging from my room, however, the rooms do need a bit of attention. I love the older, cozy feel in hotels with character, but the furniture in my room was simply worn out and uncomfortable to sit on. Lightbulbs were out. I paid extra to book the four poster double room, and my room was nowhere near as nice as the photo provided at the time of booking. I wish I had saved some money and simply booked a standard room. I think the rooms just need someone to come in and make them shine with character and elegance again. I appreciated that they thoughtfully left a fan in closet, as you can't really control the temperature in your room, and the windows only open slightly. In an effort to pack lighter, I was planning to use toiletries provided by the hotels along my journey. Some were missing, such as hair conditioner and body lotion. Just an FYI for your packing. This hotel really could be great with a little update (still preserving the antique character) and a few additional amenities. Again, I only have my room to go on. All in all though, an okay stay. A nice base in a quiet neighborhood, convenient to transport, with a hot breakfast provided.

Great hotel in the city centre
Really nice hotel in the city centre, nice lounge and dining room. The interior of the hotel is like being in a museum relating to the Royal Scots with numerous pictures and articles about past serving heroes, it’s worth visiting just to read the various articles. We will stay at the hotel again

Fantastic historical military establishment. Very clean and reasonably priced. Meals excellent, Staff very friendly; especially Jordyn behind the bar who helped make the stay really enjoyable. Would definitely recommend.

Well located perhaps 5 minutes away from Princes Street than other upmarket hotels but well worth it for the money saved and the levels of comfort and service. Very much the old military club style but nothing wrong with that when it is so cosy and comfortable.

The hotel was a military club and so its full of history wherever you go and I loved that. The place itself had everything, staff was super nice and it was walkable to some restaurants and was in a pretty nice and safe neighborhood.

The overall hotel was fine, however we did find the room to be very cold even with the radiators on full whack, this made it an uncomfortable stay. We also found the floor boards in the room very noisy. This was the same for the hallway leading to our room also.

Beautiful hotel in city centre
Lovely hotel, close to city centre. Hotel is a beautiful building. We were staying in the annexe which was back out to the street and down some steep ancient stone steps. Room was lovely, perfectly clean but way too hot! We thought wed managed to turn the heating down but infact it was just on a timer. Woke this morning to a room which was way too warm. Tried to open sash window but it seemed to be stuck. Luckily it was a lovely fresh autumn day so going to hotel for breakfast wasn't an issue but would have been different if weather hadnt been on our side. Only real problem though was the heat in the bedroom.

The Royal Scots Club is probably a great place to stay. It is located around 10mins walk from Princes Street and the staff are all very friendly. However our stay was marred by the extreme heat inside the building. Our room was too hot and the dining room was also excessively warm. Opening the dining room window had a minimal impact on the temperature (in the evening) and the breakfast staff told us that we were not allowed to open the same window. Overnight, neither of us could get comfortable to get at least a few hours sleep. In addition the b bedroom had no main light; there were only sidelights and so it was not possible to make use of any of the mirrors. The food was very good and the staff did their best to deal with our inability to cope with the heat. This was a November stay, by the way.

We would not stay there again.
The room was extremely hot and we could not seem to change the condition and could not open a window. The staff was indifferent to our situation. The room was not the room we booked online. Instead the room was two doors down from the hotel and tiny. We could barely move in that room. The room even had narrow chairs that we couldn't sit in. Very odd. And of course the breakfast was terrible as well. Overall horrible experience and way over priced.

Second, stay at the property. Unfortunately, this time was not 5 star-like it was last time. Hairs in the bidet upon check-in, toilet only flushed every 3rd or 4th time. Amenities stated on website say laundry facilities, instead you have to send laundry put for a substantial fee. Staff was not as friendly as they were last year. When room was cleaned, less towels, were left and glasses were only rinsed out. We find this terribly disappointing as we had told people how much we enjoyed staying at the Royal Scots club last year and rebooked this year expecting to have the same level of hospitality and cleanliness.

Well location is excellent Edinburgh a lovely place to see esp the castle room in hotel i hav to say i was disappointed, was expecting a wow factor for the money 300 pound for 2 nghts all double standard rooms are below ground level we wS put in room 31 in basement try not to book this room its quiet but pull your curtains to be faced with a brick wall its a stuffy room also if there was a fire outside your door how wud u get out staff on reception were nice and friendly loved Edinburgh will visit again yes would i stay at hotel again well rooms above ground level cudnt afford so i wud say no didnt like being in basement
