Nice place , not very far from the center. Smoke smell in one of the rooms when we got there, but helpful staff sorted it out quickly.

5* hotel, 6* service. good location

Posted 22-Jul-2014
Pros: what is not to like?
Cons: some very minor décor and scuffs
Location: centre of Edinburgh. not too keen on the strip clubs around the corner, but no noise and no seedy/tacky nonsense visible
good hotel, excellent service... good to see it still exists!! Just around the cornet from the best breakfast café in Scotland. Would definitely book again

Great place to stay in Old Edinburgh - right off the grass market - apartment style rooms - Charlie and the staff are very helpful and pre-stock your kitchen - would definitely stay there again

Wonderful ammenities

Pros: The staff was kind, helpful, and professional. The location was terrific, next to sights and groceries (and awful, next to 2 bars).
Cons: If you are staying on a Friday or Saturday night and you reserved a 1 bedroom apartment, I'd recommend bringing ear plugs.
Location: Museums, restaurants, pubs, cheese shop, bookstores, groceries.
We were in Edinburgh for a short holiday. After a long flight from the U.S., the staff couldn't have been more welcoming! The apartment was quite clean and had everything we could want and more. The groceries were a wonderful addition and with the prices being so much higher for food than America, it was so helpful to have a grocery store just a 3 minute walk from the hotel front door. The 5 minute walk to Grassmarket was easy down, but uphill back and had great restaurants and a wonderful cheese market right next to "Oink"--a small place that sells inexpensive sandwiches made with fresh, roasted, pork. The only drawback was that our 1 bedroom apartment faced Lauriston Street. There are a few bars right next to the hotel that were loud on Friday, and so terribly loud on Saturday, that we all had to wear ear plugs to sleep, until they closed and the patrons left. You see, in the U.K., people can stand outside on the sidewalk and drink, and talk, and swear, and drink some more. The hotel has double-pained windows, which was great for every other night, there is just really nothing else to be done on the hotel's part. It is just the nature of the location. Sunday was heaven since the bars were not open!

Excellent! Had an amazing time!

This hotel is a hidden gem! It's so close to everything in the Old Town section. Super close to Edinburgh Castle, nice shopping on Victoria Street, and some great pubs/restaurants down on Grassmarket. Yes, it is next to three strip clubs and the patrons of those establishments can be a little noisy around 1 or 2am, HOWEVER, the police regularly patrol the area and each strip club has at least one burly bouncer (sometimes two) so the area is about as safe as it gets. If the noise bothers you, shut your windows; they are soundproof (or very nearly soundproof). I slept like a rock! The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the area and good places to eat and shop. He gave us a map and marked locations of good places to go and informed us of the bluetooth streaming capabilities of the sound system (you can stream your music in the bathroom!). The welcome basket of breakfast foods was wonderful! A whole jug of milk and orange juice and loaf of bread, in addition to cereals, jams, coffee, and biscuits. Really nice. The en suite laundry was a lifesaver after 4 days of hiking! The hotel even supplied us with laundry and dish detergents. The bed was comfy, the room was clean and spacious. Everything exceeded our expectations! You cannot beat this hotel for excellent service, amazing proximity, and a great place to stay for the price!

We were very pleased with the location, service and amenities at the hotel. This was a long past due visit with family. The fully equipped apartment allowed us to entertain family in a quiet setting and walk to everything we wanted to see. 3 min to the Grassmarket, 6 to the castle and close to my nephews work.
