“Very good in parts”

Great hotel, only one problem, I stayed in room 306 and the noise of the a/c (or thats whait sounded like)unit in the hallway next to me was terrible, in fact while down in reception the guest in 206 (same room as mine but a floor lower) was bitterly complaining about the same noise

“Good boutique hotel close to main attractions”

The Hudson is a small, new, and clean boutique hotel near to some of the main attractions of Edinburgh. The hotel seems to have done some recent decorating in attempts of being trendy, and although the interiors are not amazingly impressive, the hotel did a good job making the rooms feel modern and comfortable without being tacky. One thing to worry about is the noise level outside the rooms at night, the late night dance and pub crawl seem to find their way down Hope Street outside the front entrance of the hotel. Since there is also a bar and nightclub in the first and basement levels of the building, noise levels inside the hotel at night can become disruptive to sleep. Overall, I would recommend this hotel to travellers looking for a nice hotel at a moderate rate. I liked the bed, bathroom, and flatscreen TV, and the location next to shopping on Princes st., the Castle, and the nightlife of New town. (I wouldn't recommend it for families)

“Pleasant Hotel located in New Town”

Clean, pleasant staff, arty looking decor. Only down point was breakfast - not bad, but just not good value for money. Close to new town shopping, but s short walk (uphill) to the old town.

“great location, please improve the beds”

Pleasant staff, friendly and easy to deal with. Great location. Not the greatest sound proofing between rooms, but overall very good. Bed was big, but not terribly comfortable That was the same as most of the UK they really need to improve the beds. Bathroom and Shower were fantastic though.

“Pretty good value for the price”

This hotel was much cheaper than others with the same stars in central Edinburgh so for the price it was good value. The hotel room was small and a little grubby in the corners. The worst thing was that the bed sheet was straight onto the mattress with no mattress protector or blanket in between. The staff were friendly, bar was really nice and quite lively, the food was excellent and the cocktails particularly good.

“Good Location - Average amenities”

While the location is very good, I am not sure I would describe this hotel as 4 star. The hotel is housed in an old stone building, and presents itself nicely on the outside. The rooms are small, confortable, but had a musty smell - no air conditioning. We visited during a heat wave. The bathrooms are beautiful, must have very recently been remodeled. Elevator barely fits 2 with bags and hallways are very dark and gloomy. Restaurant/bar is one of the best in town and draws a big afterwork crowd. As I mentioned, I don't think the location can be beat right off Princes Street.

“Avoid rooms with interior stairs”

Our room (204)had three stairs down to the bathroom from the small bedroom area...dangerous in the middle of the night. Small window overlooking the alley was nearly six ft. off of the floor, so we couldn't see out. Neighboring bar/restaurant dumped their trash and bottles until 230 AM one night. Having said that, I thought the interior design was fab. Good location, too. We had breakfast there every day which was tasty, and prices were typical. Take several bags of money to Britain. Everything costs about twice as much as it does here in central Texas.

“Lovely except for the noise!”

We stayed at the Hudson during a Christmas shopping trip in December 2006. We're regular visitors to Edinburgh but tend to try different hotels each time we go - we're on our 9th visit but are still yet to find perfect hotel - and unfortunately the Hudson still wasn't quite it. The location is absolutely excellent - close to the shopping, loads of restaurants and an easy walking distance to the Royal Mile, Castle & other main tourist sites. The decor is beautiful too - it feels very 'New York'- modern & crisp but not overly pretentious or imposing. The beds were very comfortable with gorgeous Egyptian cotton sheets, the showers really powerful & the technology was impressive - there were even speakers in the loo! So -you might ask - why is it still not the perfect hotel? That would be because of the road noise! Our rooms were at the front of the hotel over the main entrance & the road noise from Princes Street was constant. The hotel still has the original Georgian sash windows which are beautiful but only single glazed and woefully inadequate when it comes to keeping such noise out. Admittedly being right in the city centre some street noise is always to be expected but this was sufficient to keep you awake at night. But for the want of some secondary double glazing (or even better some decent re-production double glazed windows) this hotel could have been the one, but alas we'll just have to keep searching...
