Good value

The hotel is conveniently located on the bus routes with a stop directly across from the hotel. It is also within walking distance of the Royal Mile. The included breakfast was excellent and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. There is no elevator which is understandable given the fact that this is a guesthouse based on a renovated older building. The rooms are comfortable. This hotel was exactly the price/comfort/convenience trade-off that I desired.

clean and comfortable

Posted 19-Mar-2014 on Hotels.com
The room was clean and comfortable with all basic amenities provided. The staff were friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was great with lots of variety and good portion sizes. There didn't seem to be any restaurants within walking distance however as we had transport this wasn't a problem. Parking was very limited. I would use this hotel again if I was in the area.

Others could learn a few tricks from this B&B

I've stayed at the Ben Doran before and will stay there again. On check-in, having prepaid, I mentioned my name on arrival and they gave me a key and showed me to my room! Check in was extremely easy, a very high priority for me. On check out, I just returned the key. Easy! And they bring you fresh toast for breakfast. Location is a bit out of town centre but buses leave just outside the front door, and it was convenient for my trip, the university campus. There are also corner shops and pubs in easy walking distance. Rooms have tea&coffee aplenty; they are not en suite but I had no trouble with availability of bathrooms etc.

Pros: Staff were friendly an obliging. Breakfast was very nice.
Cons: The bathroom door didn't close, the shower was pokey & the decor was tired & shabby. Lugging heavy bags up two flights of stairs was hard work

Comfortable and Good Value

Being located on Edinburgh's Old Town, the exterior of the hotel shows its age, but the interior is beautiful and fully modernized. The staff is friendly and helpful. The breakfast was well-prepared and offered a good variety. The hotel is not close to the city center where most of the attractions are, but some may consider that a positive rather than a negative because it is so quiet there. Overall, a nice place to stay.

Nice guest house with lovely staff

Posted 07-Nov-2013
Pros: Lovely atmosphere, great friendly staff and great food
Cons: Slightly old fashioned deco and plugs very close to carpet struggled to plug straightness in
Location: Great locations and transport links to city centre
I recently stayed at this hotel whilst on a theatre break with my husband. We opted for the king size bed which was lovely and comfy The hotel is close to city centre with good transport links Breakfast was great with plenty of options. Very happy and we got a good price
