“Great hotel, great price, great location”

Staff were very friendly and helpful, rooms were well furnished with an excellent shower. The only negative point would be the glass door between the room and the toilet which meant there wasn't much privacy.

“Great Edinburgh hotel”

Loved this hotel. The location was perfect for us, just a short stroll from the Royal Mile and a few minutes more to Princes St. Despite being in a city centre location the hotel was extremely quiet as it is tucked away down a little lane. Room was of ample size and was very comfortable. Glass door on bathroom was slightly odd but not a big issue!

Area recommendations
A little bit out of the way but well worth a visit is the Water of Leith river that runs from Edinburgh to Leith. There is a beautiful walkway that runs along the river with the best section being from the Museum of Modern Art to Inverleith Row. We spotted wild otters!

“Top Hotel”

We stayed here for two nights and I must say its been the best two nights sleep I have had in years. I said to my husband I want to take the matress home with me. It is so near to everywhere you need to see in Edinburgh from the great grassmarket to princess street and the castle. You wont be disapointed if you are staying here. The only thing that bothered me is down the wall in the bedroom it looked like a drink had been spilt on it and they hadnt bothered to clean it and the bathroom walls and skirting was the same. The rest of the room was clean and the hotel staff are really nice so dont let this put you off but I did want to mention it and we would defo stay here again.

Area recommendations
Take a visit to the grassmarket and enjoy the different pubs from the last drop to the black bull. Looking for a fab place to eat do try the Castle Arms its meals are fantastic and so reasonable. Cooked to order so its always so fresh. As its name says its near the castle.
Getting there
We took the train to Waverley station no hassle and our hotel was only a 10min stroll.

“Not UNimpressed, but not amazed”

We had booked a superior room through Expedia and after a 15 min walk uphill from Waverley station with heavy bags, we were looking forward to crashing out for a bit, we opened the door to be quite dissapointed with the size of the room. I called reception who confirmed this was the correct room. I insisted this was not as described and they called back to agree it was a mistake and we were moved to a MUCH larger room on ground floor. I read a description of the hotel somewhere that said rooms were "boutique". I certainly wouldn't describe them as boutique, but they were contemporary, clean and very comfortable (if rather plain). As someone here mentioned, the bathroom doors certainly do have strips of clear glass, bit odd, but not a problem we thought. Every night of a few nights' stay my sleep was disturbed CONSTANTLY in the morning by the staff banging office doors down the corridor, but by this point we were fed up with packing/unpacking so tried to ignore (shame as curtains were lovely and thick and didn't let any light in at all, so good for light sleepers). Breakfast was rather overpriced, we found a place called "Brunch" on the main street on way back into the centre which was perfect for our needs. Overall I still would recommend the hotel but would ask for room NOT on ground floor and consider which room size you go for, I was very dissapointed with the standard room size. Surgeon's Museum owns this hotel and offered special deals for museum too.

Grassmarket! Great shops, dining and bars
Getting there
A bus runs all the way to Waverley Station from Edinburgh airport which we took full advantage of, very cheap and handy.
Must see
Don't miss Mary King's Close. Abslutely fascinating glimse into the history of the city. Pitched just right, all ages will enjoy, fun, eduvational and a little spooky.
Shopping
Would srongly recommend Victoria Street for unusual boutiquey-type shops (reminded us of the lanes in Brighton) and dining, bars etc

“Enjoyed our stay”

The hotel and staff were wonderful. The rooms were much more spacious than other hotels we stayed in during our trip. I recommend this hotel.

Area recommendations
The hotel was within walking distance of Edinburgh Castle, Prince Street, Holyrood Palace, and Arthur's Seat. We found breakfast to be substantial and reasonably priced at the City Restaurant on the main street near the hotel. Also, the Red Fort around the corner on Drummond St. served very tasty curry dishes. The waiter was very welcoming and pleasant.

“Perfect for visiting Edinburgh proper”

We went up for the Fringe so location was everything, and we couldn't have asked for better. This hotel is directly in between the Pleasance Courtyard and the Udderbelly, and only half a mile from the Royal Mile in one direction and Arthur's Seat on the other. We didn't spend much time in the hotel but it was a great place to crash after some theatre or stand-up. Other than the bus from the airport we were able to walk everywhere. The hotel staff were polite and friendly, and the place has a neat, businesslike feel. The rooms are nice and functional with all the usual mod-cons for a 3-star place. The beds are comfortable and the rooms were always smartly cleaned. The only downside is the lack of double-glazing - on a weekend this means lots of noise from the street (and we were on the fourth floor), but then this is the natural trade-off for a central location. Breakfast was formidably expensive but this didn't matter as there's a lot of reasonably-priced cafes round the corner. If I went again I'd probably go for the same place. Good price for Festival month too.

Area recommendations
Things not to miss in Edinburgh. While it's sunny (not very often!): - Hollyrood Palace and Gardens - Royal Botanic Gardens - Arthur's Seat and Hollyrood Park - Any time: - Camera Obscura (interesting exhibits, kids will like them) - David Bann's vegetarian restaurant (classy, reasonably-priced and delicious) - hire a car and drive around the area: the road to Lanark and Ayr is regarded as one of the best driving roads in Europe The Festival Fringe is another matter entirely, and worth several articles. Just make sure you wake up before the rabble and see the free comedy and music before lunch.

“Comfortable and stylish”

What a lovely hotel - not too big to be impersonal, but avoids being terrible and chinzy. Very stylishly done out room which was also super comfortable (the bed was bigger than my entire flat!). I especially liked that thought had been put in to what you might need to find in your room - iron and ironing board, tea and coffee, extra pillows etc. rather than wasting time on expensive mini-bars that you don't want anyway. The location is pretty good, within walking distance of lots of the major things to see, and also on bus routes. The hotel is in quite a quiet little square, which is nice. There's a handy Tesco round the corner if you need anything.
