“pretty basic, but service excellent”
Its amazing value for money, the room quality is very hit and miss from excellent in the new sections to really uncomfortable in the old. Overall cannot complain as the accommodation for the price in the festival is unmatched. The service is outstanding and the communal areas beautifully maintained. The setting is great too!
“Decent hotel in Edinburgh at a very reasonable price during the Fringe”
Stayed at Pollock Halls over the bank holiday weekend in August to catch the last part of the Fringe festival. Was very happy firstly with the price as everything else in Edinburgh was very expensive during the time of the festival. The staff at the main desk were always friendly and helpful as were the staff in the morning in the breakfast hall. Breakfast was included in the price and was a buffet which was of a very good standard given the price I paid! I was not expecting much choice at the buffet, but there was something to suit everyone. Rooms were clean, but perhaps not spotless like one may expect in a hotel. I felt very safe there as it was always busy (even though the place itself is a little out of the town). The only issue is that it was quite far from the centre of town (at least a 20 min walk), so couldn't just nip back during the day (which I sometimes like to do!) I'd definitely recommend to others on a budget and would definitely stay there again as the price was so reasonable.
“Pollock Hall-elujah”
My stay here was great! The staff at the 24 hr. reception were all so friendly and helpful! The cleaning service was great (even with having to use a shared bathroom - though I wish some of my hall-mates took some tips from them). My room was cleaned and restocked everyday (though sometimes I had to request certain things). Though the toiletries are just a shampoo/body wash in a dispenser in the shower, and the "bath mats" are paper - weird. But not even close to cancelling out the rest of my great experience! Also, free breakfast was a big bonus - not the best food, but decent and free!
“If you want a college hall of residence, go for it”
This is not strictly a hotel but one of the University of Edinburgh's halls of residence. Bearing this in mind, its fine but if you are looking for the standard luxury of a hotel, then forget it. The rooms are perfectly adequate although the facilties are shared. The campus modern and clean but it is a campus. Breakfast is copious, canteen style. The location was fine and if you need a place to crash, then it can certainly be recommended.
“Excellent for groups”
Second time at Pollock Halls and still good. Friendly staff. The rooms are clean and comfortable. Breakfast has a huge range of options. Reasonably short distance to Fringe venues - not far to a frequent bus service and 10 mins ride plus taxis are never far away. I stayed with a group of friends - a couple and two singles. We each had a choice of room based on our budget and clubbing together for the £4-£5 taxi ride was more convenient and at times cheaper than taking the bus. I recommend Pollock Halls ... and the view of Arthur's Seat is great, too!
“Great place ....but was unlucky with my room as so noisy I didn't hardly sleep for 2 nights”
I thought the place was great.. good location ,nice room,.lovely and helpful staff, friendly and helpful cleaner, great breakfast. However, my room was above the main entrance, the doors were very heavy and crashed as they closed ...and people came back all through the night til 5 a.m. and then people left with suitcases at 5.30 a.m. onwards....one night I slept 1-2 hours maximum and felt exhausted the next day
“Comfortable uni accom”
Clean & comfortable Accom. Good breakfast. Level of service of staff is average at best & not very helpful & I guess it is not a hotel so don't expect much customer service. Also there is very limited on site parking, so if you have a car then you will probably have the annoying task of meter parking. Also rooms have thin wall.
“Chancellors Court”
In past 2 stays - have been placed in Holland House - was over the moon when I was allocated to chancellors court. New rooms - lift - TV - easy access to breakfast, shop and check in. Stayed during festival - but quiet - had a good nights sleep. Very impressed that there were gluten free options at breakfast this year - chaotic at breakfast whatever time you go - reminds me of my student days! Easy access to Edinburgh on the bus - stops immediately next to train station. Didn't take the car this year - but parking looked OK - so many tour companies stopping that not much competition for spaces. If travelling alone - it is the most reasonable ensuite accomodation in Edinburgh.
“Very impressed!”
Never having been a student , this was my first experience of student accommodation and I'm very impressed. Even for an oldie this was just perfect, Must mention the breakfast, there was so much choice and plenty of it. Gluten Free diet was even catered for with special G.F. Muesli and G. F. bread. I'll be back!
“Highly Recommended”
Brought me back to college days. Quite a long walk into the city center but it's worth it to see the view along the way. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay here again!
