“great edinburgh location”

The hotel was perfectly placed near the train station and a short walk to the Royal Mile. You had to climb up a flight of stairs to the lobby, but other than that there was an elevator to take you up to the other floors. The room was spacious and much more than what I would have expected. I will definitely consider staying at this hotel again if I ever go back to Edinburgh.

“Highly recommend this hotel.”

I really enjoyed my stay and the staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is very central to shops and the site in Edinburgh. I would recommend this hotel for its price, location and quality of stay.

“Favorite Hotel in Britain”

If you are used to European service and don't expect to be waited on hand and foot, stay at the Waverley. The price is excellent, the building and the rooms are the essence of Edinburgh, right down to the butter biscuits and tea left in the rooms. The views of the city are marvelous and it is literally across the street from the station and relatively close to every bus route you need to get for wherever you want to go. I was concerned about the walking distance to Uni of Edinburgh because of a time crunch, but made it from the heart of the campus back to the hotel, then to the station to catch my train in around 15 minutes. The food is excellent, the prices are really reasonable, and you can have flat rate breakfast served to you in your room. There is a Boots less than a block away right on Princes Street for anything you might have forgotten to pack, and the Odeon film house is right around the corner. I did have a problem getting Internet, but they called someone in the next day to fix the problem. I really enjoyed the Waverley, it is comfortable and has a warmness to it, even in winter.

“Fair City centre Hotel,”

A standard city centre hotel, staff very helpful particularly when I arrived with 20 friends in DJ's for a very late glass of wine. Breakfasts expensive at UK 11.95 + if not pre-booked (no continental breakfast available)and not shown in room details. Check room location, tram lines being laid in Princess Street, very noisy 0700-20.00 7 days a week.

“Suited me”

The superb location, right opposite the Scott Memorial on Prince's Street, made up for the hotel's shortfalls although the skirl of the pipes from the bagpiper who has the extraordinary lung power to seem to be able to play all day outside the Memorial, can (to a non-Scotsman)grow slightly tiresome after a while. The downsides are that the beds in the twin-bedded rooms (or at least in the one I occupied) are pretty narrow but there again the room couldn't have accomodated anything bigger; the bar is pretty pricey and the breakfasts, whilst adequate, are bland and disappointing. Despite these negative comments, I've already re-visited the hotel and would have no hesitation in doing so again on any subsequent return to Edinburgh. Service is all you would wish for with the Reception staff being particularly pleasant and helpful.

“Perfect Location”

Perfect location! couldnt be more perfect. The rooms need a little updating, but we arrived early and the staff were extremely helpful taking our luggage even though check in time had not arrived.

“Excellent location”

I stayed at this hotel duuring the festival in August this year so prices are quite high, but this is the same for all hotels in Edinburgh during August. The location was fanatasic. Across the road from the train station so very convenient for travellers. The room was small but clean and very comfortable. Lovely clean bathroom and great shower. The staff were very friendly, polite and helpful. It is opposite a fringe tent so I got info on tickets easily and I got great views of the fireworks at night from my window. Watch out for the bagpipes outside when you're hungover though! I would definitely stay here again.

“Superb location, decent hotel.”

Hotel perfectly placed next to the station on Princes Street. All major attractions and shopping within walking distance. Hotel has loads of character and was clean and tidy with very friendly staff. Would definitely stay there again and would happily recommend.

“I loved Old Waverly”

This hotel is wonderful for a base in Scotland. It was near the train station, bus stop, shopping & many restaurants. It deserves much higher reviews. I had only 2 points which some might object to: steps going to the lobby and a very small bathroom. Other than that my stay was just wonderful and I WILL stay there again.
