Lovely comfortable hotel not far from city centre

Posted 18-Aug-2014
Pros: Extremely comfortable bedroom
Location: Sitting in lovely grounds, close to airport and short taxi journey into the city centre
Very pleasant staff at reception on arrival, efficient room service late at night and very comfortable bedroom and bathroom. Didn't get a chance to use the other facilities as only stayed the one night, but would definitely recommend this hotel to others. Close to the airport and only a short 15 min taxi ride into the city.

Nice hotel but

Posted 31-Jul-2014
Pros: exclusivity
Cons: customer care in the restaurant. better high chairs. help your self to drinks at the breakfast buffet.
Location: in an industrial area, however once at hotel you would not know.
the staff in the restaurant, very very slow. The hotel is beautiful, lovely surroundings, nice decor, friendly front of house staff. The restaurant, we booked in for dinner at 6 o'clock with a two year old, it took ages to get served and the restaurant was not busy, the starter came quite quickly however everything got slower and slower to the point were my two years old was running amok through boredom. I had to find staff to get napkins, I had to find staff to get menu for desert, I had to find staff get the bill and to sign it off. note I had to find staff, not call them over...... The next day at breakfast the next day was the same, we asked for high chairs, the flimsy plastic high chair that came was too small for my friend to force her 18 month old in to let alone me to try with my two year old. The highchair did not have a lift off tray and therefore you had to try to twist and force legs in tot he leg holes. This we refused to do. However we watched in horror as the poor woman next to us tried to get her child out of one high chair with the help of a member of staff to pries the child out. A very uncomfortable 5 mins for all!!!! Also for some unbeknown reason although breakfast is a combination of buffet and order from the menu - you have to order drinks, that is if you can find someone to get them and also remember to fill your order.

Quiet country setting!

Posted 30-Jul-2014
We so enjoyed returning to the peace and quiet of the Norton House after the hustle and bustle of downtown Edinburgh. Looking out our bedroom window to the beautiful fields of wild flowers, cows and trees was so relaxing. The breakfast was a lovely addition. It was only 20 minutes away to the heart of the city along the Glasgow/Corstorphine Rd. We had a room in the main house. The bathroom had just been remodelled. The room itself was big enough with its own fireplace etc. but was a little on the tired side. We would definitely stay here again.

Olde Worlde Style

Posted 13-Jul-2014
Pros: Pretty much everything
Location: Rather isolated location, but this is oneofit's charms with a small her of Aberdeen Angus cattle grazing a few metres from the front door.
Old world style, charm and grace in a rural setting approx. 20 mins by taxi to centre of Edinburgh. Cab fare is approx. 22-25 pounds into Edinburgh. Accommodation is more than comfortable, food is above average for middle of the road hotels, staff are excellent and make the extra effort to ensure that guest requests are fulfilled with a minimum of fuss. Set in well established and cared for garden. Will definitely stay again.

Norton Hotel and Spa

Posted 30-Jun-2014
Pros: Near airport but quiet. Great beds and nice atmosphere.
Cons: The food in the restaurant was kind of bland. Have eating much better all across Scotland.
Hotel was great. Beds are very comforable, nice looking hotel and grounds (to walk in). Near airport but quiet. It was a super nice stay and I recommend the hotel. The food was o.k. but not as high standards as I had expected. We found most restaurant in Scotland with lower prices to be far superior in their food presentation and taste. I think this Hotel should look for a new cook if they want to bring up the standard of their food to the high standard of the hotel.

Much more than an airport hotel

Posted 28-Jun-2014
My husband was so pleased with my choice of hotel prior to our departure from the Edinburgh Airport that he has asked that I plan more days at the Norton House in the future. Our room was luxurious and our dinner in the brasserie was superb. The spa offerings were immense. My regret was that we did not book more days so that I could enjoy being pampered. We have found a real treasure for our next visit to Edinburgh.

Business, followed by short break

Posted 19-Jun-2014
Pros: Country feel, close to airport and my business meetings. Good pool and spa facilities. Room was very good with super king plus bed
Cons: Needs a shuttle service to nearest tram stop. Needs to be realistic about prices on the wine list. House wine should be between £15 to £18 per bottle
Location: Close to airport
Hotel was good. However a bit far away from Edinburgh so taxi costs around £25 per trip into the City. No free shuttle bus to nearest public transport. Food in hotel okay, but wine list expensive against quality.
