“Very Enjoyable”
Stayed at the Norton for a wedding. Service was excellent. Food as good as it gets. Staff eager and polite probably the best I have encountered. Room was in the older part of the building and was clean, comfortable and very traditional. Other guests rooms, in the newer part of the building, were even better. alcohol very, very expensive!!!!. All in all a very enjoyable experience.
“relaxing”
a delightful surprise was to find fresh milk in the fridge to accompany the tea and coffee facility
“Will go back for a longer stay”
We stayed at the Norton House Hotel & Spa for just one night, prior to joining a cruise out of Leith. Overall, we were very impressed with the hotel and expect to stay there again when we next visit Scotland. The welcome was excellent and our luggage was taken from our taxi to our room. The room was spacious and clean, ideal for our stay. We had afternoon tea in the lounge, which was good. We also had dinner in the brasserie, which was excellent and at reasonable prices. The hotel gave us details of local walks. Our advice would be to stick with the canal walks - the other walks are longer, but have nothing of added interest. Breakfast was excellent, with a good choice. We then used the very comfortable residents lounge until our lunchtime departure (the hotel stored our luggage during this period). Overall, this hotel exceeded our expectations and we look forward to staying there again.
“Wonderful Scotish Retreat”
A beautiful country estate transformed into a warm, wonderful hotel. The service was superb and the food in the restaurant excellent. The room was comfortable and very well appointed. We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay and would love to go back and spend more time.
“Good but little things improved would make excellent”
We had a pleasant two night break. Staff were extra-pleasant and helpful. Handy for a nearby park and ride but would have been problematic if without a car. Problems were: black mould in the bathroom!: when are hotels going to fix this easily fixed problem? Annoyed with myself that I didn't just ask for another room. Doors wouldn't close without banging even when we really tried hence a broken night's sleep on one of the nights. Very quiet otherwise but we requested a quiet room. Food was good in the Brasserie.
“An good hotel in a convenient location”
I stayed at the hotel because it was near the airport but the great benefit of the hotel itself was that it was not at all like an airport hotel. The grounds were very nice, the area quiet and the building itself was great. The only complaint I have was that my room was too warm with no A/C and the bed did not have a good mattress. The restaurant was good, service great, staff friendly, and additional charges reasonable. I would definitely visit again if I needed to stay near the airport again. Thanks.
“Norton House”
We stayed in this hotel for the first two nights of our Scotland visit and the last night. The first room's bed was pretty hard but the rest of the room was great. The last room we stayed in was great all-around and was more spacious than the first room. The restaurant for evening meals and breakfast was fabulous. The food was fantastic. The hotel also has a very nice spa and gym.
“Not cheap but pretty good.”
My husband and I stayed 3 nights at the hotel in August as my cousin was getting married there. It's not a place we would normally choose as it's quite a way out of the city centre but the surroundings are very pretty and it made a lovely setting for a wedding. Overall, we were impressed by the service which was pleasant and friendly without the snootiness which many expensive hotels regard as part of the experience. We noticed that almost all the staff seemed to be locals which added to the 'Scottishness' of the weekend. The breakfast was particularly enjoyable and the food generally of a good standard. My only real complaint was the lighting in the bedroom. As so often in hotels, there was no central light and altho' there were about 6 lamps in the room it was impossible to see what you were doing. Ironing was a real challenge! But overall, it's a good, if pricey, place to stay.
“Great Edinburgh Airport Hotel”
A great hotel for the price. Very convenient to Edinburgh Airport, yet there was little or no noise. The hotel is set in a pastorale setting that one wouldn't expect from such a convenient location. There are newer rooms and older refurbished rooms. We stayed in both on our two stops there, and were pleased with both experiences. We would commend this to anyone wanting a quiet, well maintained hotel whether you need to be near the airport or not.
“great place but need a car or extra money for cabs.”
went for a long week-end birthday treat for my husbands 50th, staff are excellent nothing is too much trouble for them, and the spa is wonderful. but it has been reported that you can walk to the end of the drive and quite easily catch a bus, it is a good 20 min walk, and to catch a bus you have to cross a motorway, quite dangerous, you need a car or extra money for cabs. also our room was'nt as clean as it could have been, we moved an armchair it had at least 2 months dust under it, slight mould in the shower, heated towel rail was'nt working, but the hotle grounds were lovely.
