“Melville Castle”

The hotel and grounds were absolutely beautiful! It was very elegant and had an interesting history. The staff was very helpful and friendly. It is outside of Edinburgh but this made it more enjoyable. There is a bus stop near the entrance that we often took into Edinburgh since parking in the city was very difficult.

“Felt like royalty!”

Staying in a castle was awesome! It made us feel like royalty. The staff was amazing in accomadating us and our needs and our room was spectacular with a loft bedroom! The morning buffet breakfast was excellent and had great choices. We highly recommend Melville Castle and would definitely stay again!!!!

“Would like to go back”

Hotel was very pretty and very good service. We would love to stay there again in the future. Food was only OK but that is par for the UK.

“Very relaxing”

As the name implies, this used to be a private castle. It is about six miles south of the Royal Mile. It is very quiet, with ancient trees and a wide variety of flora. The staff were very helpful. Access to the city of Edinburgh was by twenty minute bus or taxi ride. The bus was very satisfactory. If there was a downside, it was the evening restaurant menu. Selection was limited. After the first evening, we ate in Edinburgh. Breakfast, however, was great. We would strongly recommend this to anyone who wants a retreat rather than a "downtown" hotel.

“Very nice castle on a great property!”

Very nice hotel in a real castle. Great location in a very quiet area. Hotel have a nice brasserie and good restaurant. Unfortunately, our room was not sound proof, you can hear your neighbors. Only 5 or 6 TV channnels and no slippers and bathrobes in the standard room. Also, standard room is small for the price paid.

“Did not fully meet expectations”

It might have been that we were too excited about staying in a castle, but it did not live up to our expectations. The hotel was nice and the staff was very friendly, but the location was not ideal unless you wanted to just relax at the hotel. We did try taking the bus into town one day and it was a bit of a hike to the bus stop. My friend had a bit of a hard time getting there - not ideal for anyone with problems walking distances up hill. We ended up using a taxi for another trip but that ended up being expensive. The hotel was nice but a little worn. The room was very spacious and very clean. In the end it might have been better to stay in a hotel in town, but we are glad we tried staying at the castle for this trip.
