Student accommodation of a poor standard

Posted 22-Nov-2014
student type accommodation - seemed almost as if the student had just stepped out! Grotty main areas and slightly scruffy room. Ensuite - not very clean and sink wouldn't drain properly.

great simple place to stay

being in pollock halls brought back memories of student days, although the simple but comfortable en suite and super breakfasts weren't student fare!

Fantastisch Hotel op een universiteitsterrein

Posted 15-Oct-2014

Badrummen fuktskadade. Det är väldigt lyhört mellan rummen

Rejäl frukost

Posted 24-Sep-2014 on Hotels.com

Vastly overpriced Student Halls disguised as a B&B

Posted 23-Sep-2014
Pros: The breakfast was good
Cons: Everything if charging so much - see above
Location: Bit isolated and far from centre
When booking there is NO mention whatsoever of Masson House being on Pollock Halls campus of Edinburgh University, making it very confusing to locate when the address is simply listed as 18 Holyrood Park Road with no mention of having to enter security gate. I was with a visitor from abroad who I wanted to give the traditional B&B experience, nt a cramped room where the chair wouldn't even come out from under the desk as it hit the bed ! It was not possible to repose without the basin poking into one's arm and it needed a contortionist to reach the roll. The shower was pathetic and noisy. The whole ( lack of proper and truthful ) description of the place is hugely disingenuous and VASTLY overpriced - over one hundred pounds a night for a student room, what a ripoff ! The previous place we stayed in, Roker Lodge at Best Western had uninterrupted sea views with a room three times the size, a fridge and a bathroom twice the size of that at Masson - for fifty pounds including a breakfast as good as Masson's.

wasn't expecting that!

whilst the 'hotel' itself was ok, I really wasn't expecting it to be in the middle of a university campus

Pleasant spot a bus ride from downtown Edinburgh

Posted 10-Sep-2014 on Hotels.com
Room was pleasant, clean, and staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast was in a large cafeteria with an abundance of choices - even vegetarian haggis! Parking is limited - come early and go out on the bus! But we really enjoyed our spot and there is a pantry with microwave and fridge. The price can't be beat.
