The building was Beautiful and rustic and the rooms clean and well kept I was also very surprised by how down to earth and friendly the staff were,my only complaint was that due to poor internet signal i could not take advantage of the the last minute room upgrade,thank you for your service

The reception staff were so lovely and kind. Kendal especially! I was there with my 3 kids (one being 7 weeks old) and I had forgotten my charger for my phone so she let me borrow hers to charge it up which I really appreciated. Then when I asked if I could have 30 mins later on check out time this also wasn’t a problem when speaking to reception again. It’s the little things like this that make peoples day and I’m very grateful. Also the staff at dinner were really lovely too.

Pool closed - nobody cared.
When we checked in we were told that the pool was closing at 3.30pm that day (check in from 3pm). This was the main reason for us choosing this hotel. We should have been notified of this. We'd have stayed elsewhere for half the price had we known. Nobody apologised, or seemed bothered.

Fabulous historical hotel , excellent room and bed was very comfortable. The staff were excellent and very friendly and helpful. Our only concern was the quality of the restaurant. The menu was weak and the quality of food was not as good as expected in a four star hotel. This is a shame as the hotel overall was first class , we would return, but very much doubt we’d use the restaurant unless it can Make improvements. A special mention to the lady on the front desk , who was extremely attentive and cheerful.

the hotel is based in a old Scottish manor house which gives it atmosphere. Rooms confortable and clean.. Grounds are pretty. Can recomend the scramble egg and salmon choice on breakfast Menu. Close (still need a car) to the park and ride tram so centre of Edinburgh easily reached. Staff are friendly and good.

I was really unhappy with the overall quality of the facilities. The room assigned "67" was extremely hot and there was no way to cool the room down (it was not a warm time of year for our visit). The bathroom had mold on the upper corners and in some of the grouting. Room cleaning was substandard as not enough towels were left after cleaning.

Lovely staff and great food.
All the staff were very welcoming, efficient and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and all served with a smile. Food was delicious. Cleanliness of room and bathroom excellent. Our room was a little dated and a bit gloomy at the back of the hotel but enormous and spotlessly clean.

Amazing hotel.
Room was lovely just one small issue there was hair bobbles belonging to someone else with hair attached on floor in the room when we arrived,we disposed of them in the trash bin.The staff were amazing as i was getting married the following day,they went above and beyond to help me. The hotel and grounds are stunning and would not hesitate to book again.Breakfast fantastic choice.

Family stay
Family stay for one night, in deluxe family room which was a good size and in the block beside the pool/spa. The bed was comfortable, our 12 year old was quite comfortable on the double sofa bed. Nice touch with the Elemis toiletries in the room. Breakfast was buffet style and a fresh cooked option also. This was well cooked and ingredients of quality. Had to ask for toast however, and thought the buffet style was a bit limited in areas for our daughter who wanted the continental option. We used the pool which was very clean and not overcrowded, there were plenty of loungers and seating. Would stay again although at £214 for the night I wouldn’t want to be paying anymore.

Fab dog friendly hotel
We stayed for one night with the dogs. The staff were so friendly. The room was spacious (delux double) and plenty of room for three. The grounds were great for walking the dogs. We had a burger in the bar which was great and the dogs could go there too. There is a table in reception with treats for them! The waitress even brought them a bowl of water when she brought our drinks. Comfy beds too. All in all fab stay and will return.

Hotel lovely, staff really friendly. Comfy rooms and spotless. My room was in one of the annexed buildings - but of a maze getting to and from the room but overall thought it’s a great hotel full of character and charm. Good location and easy to find

A very dog friendly hotel, key point for us, but a hotel needing some investment in upkeep, general maintenance and a deep clean. Very friendly staff, great leisure facilities, just a shame our room had a very uneven mattress and bathroom walls not very clean (mould spores, guest beard trim hairs etc). Tatty stair carpets, with worn areas and gaffa tape etc. Sagging leather sofas in the bar area such that I had to double up the cushions to be able to sit. Amongst lots of crumbs I did find £1.20 in coins in the sofa, so goes to show how often it’s cleaned. A bit of spend on certain areas and could be lovely again.
