Nice hotel, had one disappointment.

Posted 12-Jul-2014
Location: Good location, a short walk to the Royal Mile, Scottish Parliament, Discover Earth and Palace of Holyroodhouse.
Overall a nice hotel. The one disappointment was the fact that the air-conditioning quit the last night. Called the front desk and was told that the maintenance staff had gone home. They had a concierge bring a fan to the room. With the window open the fan helped. When we checked out the next day, the Front Desk Clerk and Manager didn't have much sympathy about it, offered only a cup of coffee or tea to compensate for the inconvenience. We picked this Hotel because of the Air Conditioning as many of the hotels in Edinburgh don't have it. Would of given 5 stars for Room cleaniness except for the big stain on one of the sitting chairs. Looked like an infant may have had an accident. (It may have been cleaned but it didn't look good) Other than those two issues, the hotel is very nice, lots of marble and wood trim. Jacob the concierge was outstanding. The restaraunt has great food. Overall, had a comfortable stay.

Could be better

Posted 04-Jul-2014
Pros: The location and the breakfasts...
Cons: Fix the air conditioning, WiFi service, and TV reception.
Location: The hotel is very close to Hollyrood, the new science exhibition, and the Royal Mile.
A great location! Two of the four rooms we rented for three days, however, either had TV, air conditioning, and WiFi issues which were not attended to. The breakfasts were very, very good. We would recommend the hotel because of the location and the fact that the hotel was starting a program of refurbishing which, hopefully, would address the problems we experienced.

Edinburgh Hotel .

Pros: Staff very kind and helpful. Very clean all over.
Cons: Breakfast staff need some more training.
Location: Near Holyrood Castle. Bus outside the Hotel to the middle of Edinbugh. A very short walk to the Royal Mile.
Dinner was excellent with very helpful staff. The breakfast food was very good but some of the staff were out of their depth ie cold coffee no side plates. Maybe we arrived at the wrong time as the large bus had just left. Bed very comfortable and room very clean. The desk staff were very helpful even though a large group arrived off a bus at the same time. I would go back again to the Macdonald Holyrood when I am in Edinburgh again. Will pass on to my friends to stay there.

Fantastic!

Pros: The facilities were amazing. The gym, pool and room was just gorgeous - it felt very special!
Cons: Breakfast service
We love this hotel and would stay again. Only complaint was the breakfast, it felt just a bit chaotic! We didn't get any hot drinks, then when they did come there wasn't any milk, no teaspoons. The waiter was lovely but he just seemed to forget everything. I will say that this didn't ruin the stay, we still had a great time, just a bit disappointing as the whole breakfast took about 1 hour 30 minutes!

Excellent hotel in Edinburgh

Posted 07-Jun-2014
Pros: In addition to everything above the room was extremely comfortable. I have stayed in many hotels in my life but have never had such a comfortable bed
Cons: I am really nit picking here. A hot tub would be lovely & baths in the rooms as well. The sauna was far too hot & pool water too cold.
Location: The hotel is in a great central location near the palace & parliament as well as park areas. There is also a bus station directly outside.
We had a lovely stay at the hotel. The staff were fantastic and extremely helpful. They went out of their way to help us. The hotel restaurant is very good and there are other great food options nearby such as Hemma & Pizza Express. . You get a sense of luxury as soon as you walk in the lobby. There's a spa & pool along with a steam room & sauna. Breakfast was also really lovely. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Edinburgh.

Pros: We stayed at the hotel for the EMF. It suited us perfectly as it was right beside Holyrood Park. Did not have to check out until mid-day.
We had a great experience at this hotel & we woulf stay there again.

It does what it says on the tin, sizeable rooms are a little dated but all clean and functional. Very handy for Parliament if you are planning a coup. Pleasant swimming pool for an early morning dip before you incite the masses to rise
