For anyone doing genealogy research, King James by Thistle Hotel is in an ideal location, right next door to Scotland's People and The National Archives of Scotland. The hotel is also conveniently close to Waverley Train Station, the bus station, Calton Hill, Arthur's Seat, and the Royal Mile. We had a delightful stay and can't wait to go back again.

“Location,Location, Location!”

If you are looking for a moderately priced hotel that is central to everything, the Thistle is your lassy! An easy walk will bring you to Old Town. I spent a week there in March. I arrived on a Monday morning and was upgraded to a large room with a king size bed. The room was spotless and the shower was heavenly after a long plane ride in a crampted seat. The hotel staff is most helpful about reservations for restaurants, bus schedules and anything else you might need. You can pop into the mall (connected on the third floor) to get a morning coffee and scone. A bus at the corner will take you to Leath or out to Rosilyn Chapel. Great time would go back in a minute!

“Rooms good- food expensive”

The Thistle is well situated for central Edinburgh and provides very comfortable rooms. However its food prices a high and the restaurant on the one night I used it had no atmosphere at all- only two couples in a large dining room. Use alternative eating places within walking distance and you can enjoy your stay in the City

“Great hotel and great location”

The hotel is ideally located at the end of Princes street. Very easy access to all the tourist spots in the old and new town (everythiing very walkable from hotel). Bus stop ideally located outside the hotel will take to the Royal Yacht Brittania (no 22). Hotel is very clean and staff are very friendly. Room was of a good size and very clean (no veiw in ours but who cares) and the bed was huge and very comfortable.

Nice hotel - not the most glamorous but perfect for a weekend of shopping and eating out.

Great Location to walk to all of Edinburgh's sights & shopping. Cinema and theatre also just across the road.

I arrived a day late after being fogged in for a day in London. The staff voluntarily upgraded me to an Executive suite. The service was great, everyone really friendly and my room superb! I highly recommend the Edinburgh Thistle!
