“Sound a big problem”
Stayed here for 3 nights in dec 2011. The main problem with this hotel are the inadequate single glazed sash windows from which the wind howled in and made the room cold. 2 electric heaters, one portable, were used to keep the room warm. My room faced the main road and the noise from traffic was unbearable. getting to sleep with such a racket was very difficult. Considering the main job of a hotel is to provide adequate sleeping accommodation the Hilton have failed miserably. Until the windows are improved, possibly secondary glazing I would recommend avoiding this hotel.
“Nice Hotel”
A very welcoming reception and the hotel was spotless Nothing was too much trouble for the staff We didn't eat at the hotel other than breakfast, but breakfast was good, you could have anything you wanted, even porridge with whisky! The hotel is well situated in Haymarket so you can either take a 2 minute train trip to Waverley and the centre of town, or take a leisurely stroll down Princess Street
“Poor standard for a hilton”
Given a twin instead of a double room. Say no more!
“Good but awkward room configuration”
Good location, comfortable bed, but the tiny closet in the room is in a poor location with door opening the wrong way.
“Better than average but not as good as expected”
The Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor is located very near Haymarket station and on the bus route from the airport. The hotel is therefore easy to reach but Haymarket is not the centre of the city, the area is a bit scruffy and the hotel lacks around it the better quality restaurants and coffee shops. It's about fifteen minutes walk from Princes Street so it's a bus or taxi in the rain. That said, the hotel itself is perfectly acceptable and not too corporate or impersonal. Reception was quick and efficient and the room allocated to me was large and clean. I did, however, think the room lighting was much too dim, especially so in the bathroom - it was difficult to shave - but other than that everything was fine if just a little dull and bland. Noise seemed to travel between rooms rather more than might have been expected from the substance of the building. One group during one night was particularly noisy and everything they said could be heard through the walls until about 2.30 in the morning. Perhaps I should have complained but they were not being offensive, just happy to be in Scotland on holiday. Room doors close with a resounding bang that can be heard for a long way. I ate one night in the restaurant - quite alone as the place was empty! The food was ok rather than remarkable and I thought it overpriced, especially if one included side dishes.
“A trip back in time”
But not in a good way. NO INTERNET CONNECTION! The hotel doesn't have WiFi and the cable connection didn't work, despite the best efforts of the hotel staff. This wasn't confined to my room either as my colleague had the same problem. How can this be in a HILTON hotel in 2011! The room heating was also rather rudimentary. Electric heaters (of the £14.99 from Argos type) which were either too hot or too cold due to the crude thermostat. The hotel's best feature is it's location but if you're looking to stay in Edinbugh city centre I'm sure you can do better.
“Will 100% be returning to this hotel, very nice indeed.”
This hotel was of a high standard and the location in perfect. Would def recommend staying here.
“Good location”
Good location for this hotel only difficulty was parking. Very friendly and helpful staff
“Bad service”
This hotel has a main building and an annex across the street. Having read bad reviews about the rooms in the annex, I specifically asked upon reservation that I wished to be in the main building. As I arrived, they gave me a room in the annex. The room was on the 3rd and last floor. Next morning there was practically no water coming out of the shower so we called a manager from the hotel. When he came he said that we would be able to get a room change but later on as the hotel was now full.... he never suggested a solution to the fact that we hadn't been able to take a shower!! So I had to insist that he had to give us a room to shower while waiting for the new room to be ready. Only then he accepted but gave us a tiny 'smoking' room to shower... all our clothes stunk after half hour! Had to leave our bags at reception, as they promised they would take them to the new room. Came back in the evening to find out one of our bags hadn't been taken to the new room (still in the annex!) so had to go back to get it.... Terrible stay!!
“Good Time Had”
Good location, easy to walk into city centre but away from the night time noise. Helpful staff most with a cheery smile on their faces.
