“Great hotel in an absolute perfect location”

Great hotel in an absolute perfect location with all major tourist spots in easy walking distance. The thing that stood out for us were the staff, all really helpful and jolly. Especially the guy who served us breakfast(think his name was Paul), made us feel like welcome guests to his home. NO down sides really apart from only getting 2 channels working on TV (and QVC channels at that) but who goes to Edinburgh to watch TV? might be a problem for people staying longer but i'm sure the staff would sort this out if it were a problem.

“Grassmarket Hotel”

Very central location in the old town and the quality and friendliness of the staff is superb. Unfortunately the hotel is in the middle of refurbishment so some rooms have been done and some have not. I unfortunately got a room that was not refurbished however it was very clean and the bed was extremely comfortable. As I was staying only one night I did not asked to be moved to a refurbished room. However the staff will meet the need for a move as they wish to make sure your stay is comfortable, as I overheard in the reception area for one guest. This hotel is a very old building and is protected by law so please be away the layout has lots of winding stairs and corridors to get to the rooms. However there is a lift to all floors. There is double glazing however the outside window is the original sash window, so may not be easy to open. I would be happy to stay at this hotel again even in its present state :o)

“Room selection”

We had a room which is immediately above the pub and therefore it was rather noisy until very late at night. Recommend that if you use the hotel that you ask for a room at the back - or certainly one which is acknowledged as a quieter one.

“would stay here again”

the hotel staff were excellent, the scottish breakfast was excellent plenty of choice, the room was clean and tidy, in need of a touch up in a few places, but overall a good place to stay, irish bar below very lively open till late so was a little bit noisy, situation of hotel was brilliant for bars and restaurants close by,within walking distance of sightseeing, there is an incline but a bit of exercise dosnt harm you, overall a satisfied customer.

“small but efficient”

friendly staff, small room, OK breakfast, well-located, close to Edinburgh castle and small shops and pubs. It met my needs for this short trip.

“No problems”

The hotel is located in the Old Town, close to the Royal Mile. It's a bit of a hike from Waverly Train Station, but possible if you don't have much luggage. At night I could hear the pub next door through the wall, and I imagine the noise would have been worse if I had a room overlooking the street. Otherwise, a clean, friendly hotel in a good location.

“Excellent Hotel - Great Location and Good Value”

I booked the Grassmarket because it was good value compared to other Edinburgh hotels and the reviews for this hotel all seemed positive. We were not disappointed on arrival, the reception looked quite basic but overall clean and tidy. The staff were extremly helpful and friendly. When we got to our room we were pleasently surprised, I wasn't expecting much as it is only rated as a 2 star, but the room was large with a massive bed and everything was very clean and well kept. There was tea and shortbread in our room and this was refilled on a daily basis. The location was excellent, right in the heart of the old town and only minutes walk from the castle. The hotel is right next door to several nice pubs, even though they filled out in the evening and could get quite loud. This is the only negative I would have with this hotel, it did get very loud at night with a pub being next door and therefore I found it difficult to get to sleep. I would definately stay at the Grassmarket again, it is one of the better value hotels i've stayed in and worth every penny!

“Great location”

The Grassmarket is at a great location -- it's a barely five minute walk to the castle with lots of great pubs on the same street. The rooms are a little small - but, you are in Europe, so, what do you expect? And the shower is great! The standard breakfast gave you enough something to start your day.

“Great Location, Tidy, and Fun”

We stayed for three nights while attending a wedding in Edinburgh. All in all, if you've traveled Europe at all, you'll appreciate this hotel as having local flavor (its attached to a great pub which serves tasty breakfast) with reasonable costs (not a hostel, but not a snobby chain), in a great location, with clean and bigger than average rooms

“rowdy at weekends”

although the general hotel looks down at heel, the rooms are very nice and mine certainly was comfortable, clean, and welcoming. its a bit rowdy over the weekend, -attracting hen and stag do types.
