“Location, location, location!”
Location & atmosphere more than made up for shabby interior. Very clean though, bathroom & beds spotless. If I had to go back tomorrow - this is where I'd stay. The bagpipers will do your head in though!!
“Great location!”
Great location, ideal for tourists! front office where the keys are to be collected has very pleasant attendants. very helpful, however don't expect any reception desk, no room cleaning during our stay of 2 nights. no refill on the stock of tea, coffee milk provided at the start of stay. But the location on the Royal Mile (Lawn Market) and the experience of living in a 400 year old building is simply awesome and something worth experiencing!! Go for it!!
“Not so good!!!”
If you want to stay at the best location in Edinburgh, near the the city castle and don't care about run out of hot water in the middle of your bath or go up 5 floors by stairs, this is your place.... For a little more you can stay at other hotel, with better structure. You can't make your check-in at the same place you going to stay. that means that you going to spend some extra money taking a taxi (cab) to enter in your apartment or walking the entire city. Castle Apartments are flats and there is nothing about a hotel.
“Very convenient location”
Stayed at Castle Apartments for four nights in June 2008. My apartment wasn't exactly luxurious, but more than adequate for a short stay. Couldn't be better located for the Royal Mile and all its attractions. Don't take any heavy suitcases though, as the spiral staircase is a bit of a pain. About five minutes to Waverley Station on foot, ten minutes to Princes Street (and the city centre's shops, bars and restuarants). Parking is tricky in the area. Recommended overall.
“Don't choose it if you just wanna have a night stay.”
It is really bad not to put a notification on the booking page saying need to collect keys from another part of Edinburgh.
“The Good, the Bad and the Ugly”
The Good: Great location on Royal Mile. The Bad: 97 steps up a 400 year old narrow, winding staircase. Had to ask for fresh linens. No on site parking. Parking lot several blocks away and very expensive. The Ugly: Check in was several miles away and diffcicult to find (especially after an overnight flight and unfamiliarity with city).
“comfortable”
the apartments where extremely clean, well equiped and very tidy. they were central to all places of interest. the appartment were very well priced for the srevice proveided. the only draw back was being the no 8 appartment we had the flight of stairs to carry our cases up as there was no lift provided.
“Horrible administration”
Room's alright but the administration could very much improve. Wasn't informed how to find the office to get the keys, phoning for instructions didn't help. Wasted a lot of unnecessary time and energy moving from the apartment on the hill of the old town and all the way down to their the office in the new town only to find out we couldn't collect the keys yet until 4pm (couldn't they just tell us that on the phone and save me and my wife the hassle and time??) but we can fill out some forms first and come back later AGAIN to collect the keys!
“Not Impressed”
Room was very small and shower had little water pressure.
“castle apartments”
the apartment we stayed in was tired and needed updating although we did have everything needed for self-catering.Breakfast was meant to be included in price but on checking in found that the cafe used for breakfasts had gone bust and no other alternative was offered. If there was more than two people staying you would need to use sofa bed in lounge which was on royal mile and would have been pretty noisy for anyone sleeping in there but bedroom was fine.
