“Fab location - needs a bit of TLC”
Right in the centre less than 10 mins walk away from the station made this hotel a great location for seeing the sights. however be aware that this is a city centre hotel located above a bar so can be a bit noisy until the early hours. The hotel is quirky, but needs a bit of maintenance - light bulb & lamp replacements, limited plug sockets in the room and the bathroom floor obviously suffered with leaky shower curtains. The wireless didn't work during our stay either which was disappointing. The staff were extremely friendly though and helped with bags to the rooms - no lift here just steps although we were lucky enought to be on the first floor. The rooms are all themed & I have to say ours contained the biggest bed I've ever slept in and it was very comfortable. All in all, a fab location, fun & quirky - don't expect The Ritz - understand you're sleeping in the town centre so expect some noise and this hotel won't disappoint. We'd stay here again.
“Ideal for shopping & sightseeing”
It is very difficult to review this hotel as it is a building of character and therefore some of what I am about to say is more to do with the cosmetics of the building. The reception for this hotel is contained within the bar area on the ground floor. Staff were extremely friendly on check-in although you are jostling with people waiting at the bar for service. The bar area is very nice and seems to attract an older crowd and is therefor not noisy at all. Once you enter the hotel area via a door off of the bar, the decor standard lowers slightly but as I say this is more of a cosmetic thing rather than shabby. There is no lift and all rooms are accessed via the main staircase. The room itself was characterised as are all the rooms. It was clean and well presented but again there were cosmetic issues with the wallpaper were it had bubbled up. The shower was not great in that there was little pressure in the water. The safe in the room did not work altough the hotel did offer to place items in their main safe. The room was serviced daily and the biscuits, chocolates and tea & coffee etc replensished. The communal areas leading to the rooms were not particularly clean and were dusty in parts. All in all this hotel is excellent for its location, it's rooms are satisfactory. I would say that if you were visiting Edinburgh for shopping & sightseeing then this location is great. If you were vsiitng for a special occasion you may want to look at another hotel.
“Bank Hotel, Edinburgh”
Small rooms, too many stairs to climb with your luggage, maintenance is not being kept up in the rooms, cracked basins, tiny weal shower. Great location for touring Edinburgh although the town clock next to our window was a pain. Staff were great and the pub food is fine. I would recommend this hotel, but try and avoid being on the 4th floor, it's a long trudge with bags.
“Nice hotel in the heart of Old Town”
This hotel is small, and right above the Bank Bar. It's very close to Waverly train station, but when you are leaving the station you need to make sure that you get up to bridge street, because it's quite hard to walk up any of the closes with a suitcase. Our room was very unusual, with a James Young Simpson theme. There were lots of apothecary bottles and some specimens on the shelves covering one wall. We enjoyed this, but I could see how some people might find it creepy. The only problem I had was that it was more than a little warm at night. Overall, I highly recommend the Bank Hotel.
“loads of character”
love this place - the rooms are very distinctive and imaginatively decorated. Service is very friendly and efficient. Location just perfect. Great value as well for Edinburgh
“Great theme hotel”
With a perfect location and great staff, you can't ask much more from an Edinburgh lodging. The rooms are themed (Kind of creepy if staying by yourself), based on famous Scotsmen. Breakfast isn't included, but there is wifi, and a great bar. Would definitely recommend to other travelers.
“Great location”
Perfect location for all Edinburgh has to offer! Cheap drinks in the pub downstairs too!
“One of the Worst Hotels I have ever stayed in!!!”
I have 3 experiences of staying in bad hotels and this is hotel is at the top of my list. Here is the reasons I hated it with just cause. 1) Pub located directly under the rooms. Don't expect to go to bed before 1:30am. Loud Live Music. 2) Extremely busy road next to the hotel. No double glazing or sound protection. So I doubt you will even sleep after 1:30am. 3) No room service. What a joke! 4) One Room key, need I say more Basically a rubbish hotel that needs to be exposed and shutdown. Stop ripping people off! You will love this hotel if you are a backpacker that can stand not having sleep and have no standards. Trust me! Steer Clear!
“Capital Central Hotel”
Warm reception ensured the Edinburgh Festival/Military Tattoo weekend got off to a flying start. The themed room gave insight to the history of Auld Reekie. Bar/Hotel Staff ensured all our requests for fare and information were readily supplied with a smile on the face. Scottish breakfast set me up for the day as did the late night snacks supplied. Check out was smooth after being allowed extra time to check out. All are to be congratulated on their efforts. Will be back same time next year
“Wonderful location and staff”
While checking in at the bar downstairs was a surprise, the staff were the friendliest we encountered on our 3-week European trip. Security of the hotel was good, and the rooms were all very nice - really a boutique hotel. Location on the Royal Mile convenient to all touristy places, and the airport bus as well. A trifle noisy early in the morning with delivery truck traffic nearby, but that was minor.
