Edinburg is located in the Rio Grande Valley of south Texas, about 75 miles (120 km) from the Gulf of Mexico and 16.5 miles (27 km) north of the Mexican border. Edinburg is home to the University of Texas-Pan American; the Museum of South Texas History; and the Edinburg Roadrunners, an independent baseball team in the United Baseball League. El Sal Del Rey is a salt lake located 22 miles (35 km) north of Edinburg.
