Good Hotel

Posted 24-Aug-2014
Pros: On the sea front. Outstanding breakfast. Great staff.
Cons: Room was small and dated with 4 steps up to the bathroom. Paid £14.45 for 2 pints of beer and a G&T which I consider expensive.
Good hotel, well run. Staff very good providing excellent service

Lovely stay

We booked via an Expedia deal. £99 a night. Room at the back of hotel but excellent value for money. Although I think normally charge is around £200 for a room of this type ( wouldn't pay that) Staff courteous and friendly. No complaints

Good Hotel close to beech and shops.

Posted 20-Aug-2014
Pros: We found it to be well run and clean and had every thing you could need.
Cons: nothing
Location: The location is very good, on the sea front and there is lots to do for families ie boats and water sport.
We had a very nice few days staying at The Grand. The food was good and plenty of it to enjoy. We enjoy walking so it is a good position. and easy for buses if needed.

5 star price but 2 star quality

Posted 18-Aug-2014
Pros: Impressive facade, reception area and staircase. Reception staff were excellent at check in / check out.
Cons: Decorate the rooms properly. Clean them properly. Hot breakfast. Quieter bar area (or at least a warning about a major function when you're booking)
We had high expectations for the Grand but it was a bit of a let down. It's a fantastic location on the seafront and close to the centre of Brighton but once you get past the reception (great reception staff btw) what you get is a slightly shabby and rundown room. Mold on the bathroom tiles, dirty shower curtain, stained room service menu, damaged window & dirty marks on the walls. The facilities in the room were also quite poor considering the price - no fridge, aircon, bathrobes etc. Supposedly the rooms were refurbished in July 2013 but you can't tell - they look poorly done and haven't been maintained well. Saturday night was really busy in the bar and that effectively meant that it was off limits to hotel residents as it was full of rowdy people attending a boxing match at the hotel. Breakfast was like visiting a school canteen - certainly not the elegant relaxing occasion we expected. Cold cooked breakfast on cold plates with cold coffee. Dirty chairs. There are far cheaper and better hotels in Brighton. Perhaps if we'd been paying less I wouldn't be so critical but it's a premium price so you expect a premium quality hotel and that's not what you get.

Glad i did it but!!!

It was always a wish to stay at the Grand and although we enjoyed the experience i must say we were very disappointed with the fact the room had no air-condition. It was a much cooler day but the room was much to uncomfortable to get a decent nights sleep. Even with the duvet on the floor it was like an oven in the room. Would only stay again in the winter.

Grand by name, grand by nature

Posted 12-Aug-2014
Pros: The decor of the hotel and the elegant comfort of the lounge bar
Cons: There was no convector fan in our bathroom which made it sauna-like after showering
Location: Location is perfect for visiting all of Brighton's highlights as it is both a short walk to The Lanes and the pier
I stayed at the Grand for an overnight with a friend and found the location, condition and ambience of the hotel to be excellent. The buffet breakfast was fresh and plentiful and the rooms a good size with very comfortable beds. The only disappointment was the unfriendliness (verging on rudeness) of the receptionist on check-in. She was curt and very unhelpful on simple queries - would the room be available earlier and did the room have a seafront view - but fortunately her bad attitude was not contagious as the rest of the staff were efficient and courteous.

Our stay was effortless from the start!

Beautiful hotel and staff were brilliant from the start. I would defiantly recommend the sea view balcony rooms in the summer. Look forward to returning again soon.
