Hotel Rye Lodge in Rye

Posted 10-Sep-2014
Pros: Nothing very much not exceptional in any way
Cons: Clean off the mold in the shower tiles and provide a proper shower screen
Location: This was a business trip. I ate in the George Hotel and found it to be very good. I would consider staying there as well if I ever go that way again
The room was cramped and unbearably even with the window wide open. The shower even more cramped with a shower curtain that wrapped around you and the dreaded black mold on the tiles.

Great location

Posted 26-Aug-2014
Pros: It's location within Rye
Cons: The rooms are very tired but understand they are in the process of being refurbish .
Location: Overlooking the salt marsh and ideal for exploring Rye, which is well worth a visit.
The hotel was in a very good location, although the car park could be bigger. Rooms were OK but not luxurious , as described in the brochure. Staff on the whole were friendly and helpful.

Nice little hotel, friendly and helpful staff and great location in Rye, however overpriced for what it was.

Was a little disappointed

Posted 21-Feb-2014 on Hotels.com
For the price of the room it was a bit disappointing for the price per night without breakfast - a little expensive.

A nice hotel, small and old-fashioned.

Posted 17-Dec-2013
Pros: Atmosphere, staff, spa, location, breakfast.
Cons: Hang the bathroom door the other way. Fit a shower (or at least a new curtain). Warm the pool a bit!
Location: Rye is beautiful. Plenty of great places to eat and loads of antique shops to wander around. Good gents barbers for a shave and haircut in Rope Walk.
My wife and I stayed at the Rye Lodge for two nights as a birthday treat. It's a nice hotel, small and neat, with an old fashioned vibe (the unkind might say dated). The staff were lovely, and made us feel very welcome. There is no restaurant within the hotel, but the kitchen provides a good selection of room service meals should you want one. To be honest, Rye has so many quality places to eat out in the evening, you'd probably choose to eat elsewhere anyway. We ate at the Union Steakhouse (Excellent) and Webbe's (OK, bit over-hyped). Our room was comfortable and spacious (a deluxe double), but previous comments regarding bathroom size were accurate; that said, hanging the door so it opened out in to the spacious bedroom, rather than inwards into the cramped bathroom would help enormously. The rooms were obviously decorated to a high standard in the past, but ours was a little tired and would benefit from a bit of a spruce up. The bathroom was cramped and had a shower over the bath with a curtain; in this day and age, a walk-in shower would be much better, as well as more space-efficient. Whatever, doing away with the manky shower curtain and replacing it with a decent screen would be a start! The sauna was great, and we had the spa to ourselves for an hour. The pool and jacuzzi were both a little too cold, which was a shame (although invigorating to jump into straight from the sauna!). Overall 3 stars from me as, for the best part of £200 a night, I expect a good deal more.

Lovely old fashioned hotel

Posted 09-Oct-2013
This hotel takes you back to how hotels were years ago. Really friendly staff who know the area inside out and take the trouble to talk to guests and make you feel really welcome. Beautiful spacious room, lovely breakfast. Only downside was unbearable heat in our room (above the boiler) and antiquated plumbing (shower hot and cold).

comfortable and friendly

The room and hotel are well appointed. The only small criticism is that the room was very warm. Breakfast was excellent, with a very good quality cooked breakfast. The car park is a highly desirable feature in Rye.
