We stayed in a sea view room which was a nice size with lovely views but the windows were not soundproof or insulated so they were noisy and cold to sit by and kept me awake. Service was lacking at breakfast on the Tuesday morning and had to ask other guests where they got there cooked breakfast from as it wasn’t out for selection, so my husband asked someone cleaning tables and he asked us what we wanted! No choice given! Wednesday completely awful with a coach load of people in the very small breakfast room, we couldn’t move but were shown to seats buy a nice man and told it was self service, easier said than done with all the people I can tell you!! Unfortunately Tuesday when we got up the weather was horrible so we stayed in our room after breakfast and at 12 we went down to the bar to get lunch to find it shut till 4:30 so we had to brave the wind and rain to find some food! We then came back after a lot of walking to relax with a drink before dinner only to find the bar was now closed till 6pm all very frustrating! The hotel looks good but needs updating and better service. Three star rating at best! Car park too expensive too!

I reserved a room at the Mercure for my partner's birthday, and our experience from the moment we arrived was exceptional. The convenience of parking right next to the hotel was a plus. Upon arrival, we were warmly greeted by the hotel manager, Marta, who was incredibly kind and attentive. She presented my partner with a birthday card, chocolates, and a complimentary drink at the bar. The hotel itself was stunning, with impeccable cleanliness and thoughtful design touches. Our superior room exceeded expectations, boasting spaciousness and cleanliness. The bathroom, complete with a large shower and bath, was a highlight. Our balcony offered a lovely sea view and comfortable seating. Great room amenities, including air conditioning and a posh coffee machine. The reception desk staff were always available, although we found everything we needed already in place. The breakfast was outstanding, with a wide variety of options and a picturesque sea view. The full English breakfast was one of the best ive had, the product was great quality and so fresh. The attentive staff again during breakfast meant we never went without. Overall, we couldn't find a fault with this hotel. It has now become our preferred choice for our visits to Brighton, thanks to the exceptional service provided by the lovely manager Marta, absolute first class service Thank you, Mercure, for making our stay so special. The hotel needs a serious refurb which is a shame as it’s in a great location. The best part of our trip was definitely the friendly and helpful staff.

The property needs refurbishing, carpets have massive dirt stains in them, windows and doors are really difficult to open and very old. Not enough parking. Staff are extremely pleasant and polite, it was a pleasure conversing with every member of staff. This was my fourth stay at this hotel normally I’m in the superior room with the biggest balcony, bit this time I was in the privilege room with a balcony I must admit I was gutted!!! But then I got used to the small space and the balcony and the views is lovely !

So me, my husband and 1 year old stayed here at the Mercure for 2 nights at the beginning of January. It was a spontaneous booking but we are so glad we booked this hotel. There is parking at the hotel so great for you to just leave your car and know that it is safe. The moment we went into the hotel it was absolutely breathtaking, the hotel is amazing and looked beautiful. It was an easy process when we arrived and they checked us in quickly and easily. They gave us all the information that we needed to enjoy our stay. A Scottish man behind the desk was absolutely lovely and so friendly. He really made you feel so welcomed. All the staff were very friendly and were there if you needed them. They were so friendly and welcoming to my daughter and made it feel really included. Our hotel room, was lovely and spacious and had a double bed and a single bed and the bathroom was huge. It was very clean and I had a lovely nights sleep. The hotel is on the sea front and local to all attractions. I would say roughly 15min walk to Brighton pier. Which we liked as we walked along the sea front each morning and my daughter got to run around and enjoy a walk and we grabbed a coffee on the way at the coffee shop ( which is lovely). We had breakfast every morning, which again was lovely. They have a Buffett of English breakfast and then fruit, cured hams, fruit, yogurts, pasteries, juices and tea and coffee. We really enjoyed our stay and I would definitely return.

I had a lovely 4 night stay as a solo traveller on this occasion. The hotel and bar staff are friendly and attentive. A special thank you to Barry for his excellent customer service. The hotel has some quirks due to the age of the building, such as the occasional humming noise when another room flushes the toilet, but nothing that disturbed my sleep. The location is perfect right on the seafront. I enjoyed a lovely walk along the front by the sea in the mornings. I felt comfortable and safe during my stay, and will definitely return in 2024 for the next part of my course.

The staff were great and friendly but our ‘superior’ room had a smelly bathroom and the door to the balcony had a huge gap when closed. The second room we booked for our friends was a suite (they got upgraded) and it was great, but they heard everything from reception which was occasionally loud.

Accessibility overstated
Lovely hotel with a lot of period features. Accessibility is overstated on the listing though as it's an old building with lots of stairs including stairs to the lift. Room generally comfortable and staff helpful, so worth a stay if you don't have accessibility needs.

Won’t be returning.
Faulty Towers. The Brit tv show about a hotel back in the 80s. Yup. Very similar. Staff obsequious. I was put in a Mews room at the back. Pokey, small and not great. The garage parking is very crowded. Takes some care getting in and out. Generally, not recommended. Food ok but nothing to write home about.
