worth a visit

Posted 22-Jul-2013
Pros: was very comfortable
Cons: bit far from town centre
Location: slightley out of town
From the moment we arrived at the hotel we found it very welcoming, the room was comfortable and the breakfast was really good as were the staff, the only issue we would have is the fact that we ate in the Crystal restaurant on the first evening and even though the food was superb we did find that the £3.00 supplement for the scollop starter was not justified as there was not a lot of it.

Lovely elegant hotel

Pros: Breakfast
Cons: Nothing
Location: Great location close to seafront. Views of the sea from some rooms. Not that close to the town centre but it's a lovely walk along the seafront.
Lovely elegant hotel. Our room was very nicely furnished and comfortable. The bathroom was a bit "tired" but perfectly clean. Breakfast was excellent.

If you need to relax this is the hotel for you

Posted 26-Jul-2012
Pros: The soothing atmosphere combined with a friendly, superb staff offering a service rarely seen these days and the beautifully presented and tasty food.
Cons: The out of use shower at the pool.
Location: It took 15 mins slow walking to be in the theatre area of Eastbourne. Lovely cliff walks a few minutes walk away, easy walk to bandstand and pier.
This hotel is in a lovely position and offers a most relaxing stay. The staff are charming and very helpful. Service in the restaurant is of a very high standard as is the food, presentation is superb and unusual belnding of flavours adds to the pleasure of eating there. Everything is very clean and comfortable and whilst we were there the entertainment was a really fantastic performance by a harpist in a very pleasant lounge one evening, she was very talented and very friendly offering a varied programme played exquisitely and with a humouros chat that greatly informed us about harps. The sun lounge is a lovely light place to sit and have a coffee or snack and overlooks a lovely garden with a croquet and small putting course. Reception staff and porters were all very helpful and equally charming. We had a really relaxing stay and made the most of the heated outdoor swimming pool. A very quiet, relaxing stay with old fashioned standards of service much appreciated.

rowdy guests at 2-3am but no night porter!

Posted 04-Jul-2012 on Hotels.com
Beautiful location - I've never been to Eastbourne before - and many faded charms in this hotel. However, room was gloomy (deep purple everywhere), hot and stuffy - no aircon unless your room faces the sea!. Rowdy wedding guests at 2-3 am not dealt with by night porter meant no more sleep. Breakfast was GOOD, but why aren't staff welcoming? No one smiles or seems pleased to see you! Presence of obligatory 2 year old screaming and running around dining room unchecked by parents did not help. Aircon plus tweaked attitude wd make ALL the difference.

Well placed & good breakfast, poor room.

Posted 09-Nov-2011 on Hotels.com
This hotel is very spacious with well kept downstairs areas and lots of seating to meet friends or just sit and relax and have coffee/ read the paper . The restauarant breakfast was well cooked and the servce in the restaurant was friendly and fast, really good experience. The bathroom had been refurbished and was clean, unfortunately the only thing letting it down was the standard of furnishing in the bedroom which was traditional but verging on shabby and the poor upkeep & room cleaning. The walls above the bed were coated with dust , maybe left from when the bathroom was refurbished? The room phone did not work so I had to use a mobile to book a meal and the main ceiling light did not work. When we arrived and also the next morning a lot of the corridor floor area was strewn with laundry. Rooms need servicing, but I don't want to pick my way through random heaps of sheets & towels as they were thrown out of the other rooms. If we'd got a better maintained room then it would have made a big difference to the enjoyment of our visit and it was a real shame as the room position was good.
